Default 1981 virago trouble

I have a 1981 viargo and i rode it for three days and now it wont start it sounds like it wants to but the battery is new and it wont start. What could be the problem i know the bike sat for years and i know they have starter problems how could i solve this. any help would be great.

You're going to have to explain "wants to...."
That's not a term commonly used by mechanics, not when talking about engines at least!

When you push the button, is it actually turning over? Normal speed or very slow........or just makes a little noise and does nothing?
Or does it turn over fast but not fire up?

Was the new battery properly charged before installing?
Was the charging system checked when the battery was replaced?

well it turns over but theirs no fire to the spark plugs but i lied the battery is not new but it does hold a charge. my step father who is the one doing most the work said it may be with the ignition system but i cant find a diagram for the ignition. what else do you need to know thanks for any help ahead of time

If there's no spark, I'd say that's a pretty solid guess!

Only suggestion I have, before tearing into the ignition system, is to check the fuses, major wiring harness connectors AND the safety interlocks.....including the kill switch.

Update had a bad relay and there was a little ignition box that had melted b/c of a hot wire grounding on the frame but fixed it all and sold it. made out pretty good for a 50 dollar bike. thanks for the help.
P.s got the name wrong its a virago it's a buddy's bike.
