Default Vulcan 800

Thinking about getting one of these as my first "beater" bike because they seem to be really prevalent for cheap in my neck of the woods. what can you guys tell me about them. Is this a good bike? What should I know about it?

The 800cc bikes from Suzuki and Kawasaki seem to be indestructible, I think it's a pretty safe buy.

my brother has a 96 and it has over 10,000 + miles and hasn't given any trouble - seems to be good to me
