Default two questions

Will be getting saddlebags (throw over type) for my 500 in time and will need guards. Any place to get them for less then what Kawasaki wants? Also as my bike has less then 100 miles on it and I have not yet put more gas in it, what do you think of using an octang higher then 87 or is that OK? The manual says 87 is OK?

87 is just fine and as far as the saddlebags, shop around.

My wife runs 87 octane in her 500.
She just got the Kawasaki bags and supports and yes, they are expensive.

There may be an aftermarket equivalent but they may still require the turn signals to be relocated.
The Kawasaki supports come with the necessary hardware and instructions to relocate the signals, which was a real PITA to do, as you have to pull the wiring all the way through from under the seat, then try and thread it back through.
