Default how can i get more power out of the vulcan 900 ?

ok, so i like the vulcan 900 custom, and am thinking of buying it (the V-Rod is still my first choice) - but i'd feel MUCH happier with plunking down the $ for it if i knew how to get more power and torque out of it (short of having nitrous tanks in the saddlebags). not looking to embarrass any V-Rods, but more power doesn't hurt.

any mods that give honest sizable power gains? it gets around 48hp to the wheel, but how much more can be squeezed from it?

The 900 custom is a beauty.

The obvious changes would include a power commander and an after market intake/exhaust.

Some V&H pipes, PCIII, and K&N filter made a difference on my C50.

Not that it's going to make a BIG difference, but it should give you a few more horses.

It's a start at least...

My 900 custom is 2 months old and i put a set of Cobra pipes on it plus did a little tuning with a efi tuner and all that really woke my bike up! For a stock 900 i thought it ran well but now it has a little more and love it!! Next step will be a k&n filter!!

As stated above. If you change the intake, exhaust and add a fuel controller such as the PCIII you can gain some real HP.

I am in the same boat as you. I have never rode a Vulcan 900 custom, but I did ride a V-rod. The v-rod hands down is the best bike I have ever rode. Smooth ride, sounds beast, forward pegs, tons of power. I just LOVED it.

With that said, id never buy one. 11k for a used bike? no thanks. My last bike was a Suzuki Hayabusa so im pretty spoiled when it comes to having power on tap. Since Ive decided i want a cruiser and i cant afford the V-rod i am going with a vulcan 900 custom. I have seen 3 dynos for this bike. One guy put down 42whp stock added a Baron BAK intake ONLY and gained 6hp/6tq (48whp) That alone will put the vulcan 900 into 1100-1300cc power to weight ratio range since we are 100lbs+ lighter.

two other guys had exhaust, power commander, and intake only put down 51-52whp. That tells me the stock exhaust and tuning isnt the bottle neck. The intake is restricted for sure though.

I have seen stock vn900 dyno for 47-48 but differnet dynos/weather have different results. after i get mine tonight ill order Baron BAK in a few weeks and try to reproduce the results.

edit: If you can afford it , you might want to try an "m95" or left over mean streak. They dont have much more power stock, but i think they mod A LOT better then the 900 does. Ive seen dynos of mean streaks in the mid 80's with intake, exhaust, tune. that should put you in VTX1800/m109r territory? I sat on both mean streak and vn900 they feel about the same to me, they look very similar. Mean streak will handle better, brake better.. but weighs 100lbs more.
