engine knock on cold start - Motorcycle-Journal Forums

I have about 1800 miles on my c50 and I started to notice a knocking sound when I first start it up. It sounds like a heavey engine knock. After the bike warms up it seems to go away. I had the 600 mile service done on time. I was just wondering if anyone else noticed any strange nosies on start-up.

What oil did they use on the service.

It's probably nothing to worry over. Some engines will knock a bit when first fired up until they get warm. If it continues in duration or grows louder, I'd ask your dealer about it.

yep

Mine has always done that, I just let it sit there and do its thing. Once the oil circulates it quits. It also knocks if you bog it down, so I keep the revs up.

This is when you will appreciate those extended warranties if something really bogs down, during your ownership... Since you probably would not think it's anything serious...

Engine "knock" cold is present on my C50 limited and disappears after about 2 kilometers or so. Seems normal as I have heard this sound in Intruder engines after cold startup.
