Default shifting problem

Hi, Anyone experienced any dowqnshifting problems with thier C50? GOt stranded today. Went to downshift for a light and couldnt get in gear. Had to coast to the light, then when I put it in first it would stall. Over and over and over. No the kickstand wasnt down. Had the dealer come to pick it up. they adjusted the clutch and drove it to the shop, no problems, then supposedly drove it some more and said it was perfect. Picked it up, and was lucky to get home, it wont downshift unless you keep hitting it real hard and by then youve coasted so much its lugging the engine. Anyone had any similar problems?? As always, thanks for listining guys. Great site. Oh, by the way it has less then 1000 miles on it, and they are picking it up tomorrow. Thanks Doug

No problems with mine. I have had to work at my adjusting to heel/toe shifter. Smooth shifting.
Hope it is a simple adjustment.

Don't have that problem but sometimes all bikes can be finicky about gear changes. Sometimes just letting the clutch out then back in might help.

Never had any problem like that... sounds like you need to make a repeat visit to the dealer...

blackie, please tell me how you adjusted the shifter and in what way.. have trouble shifting with boots (heavy work boots) .... but no trouble with hiking boots ...the bike shifts great with the exception of shifting from first to second ...if you dont build your rev's up.....other wise is smooth as silk

Mine shifts great, I did have some problems at first getting it into neutral. And from neutral to first didn't want to shift. Sometimes I had to doubble clutch it to make it go into gear. It was a bit rough when it was brand new but after a few hundred miles it was smooth.

Rappidrabbit;
I did not adjust my shifter but my shifting. I was too use to honda pegs and toe shifter. Found my heel sitting to far back on top of heel shifter.
Never had floorboards before. The shift should be able to be relocated on the spline. It would lower toe and raise heel or vise versa.

Let us know how this turns out, maybe the assembly job was not done correctly. I'm at about 5700 miles on my C50 now with no problems.

Stalling when you put it into gear you say. Is it just totally cutting out before you let out the clutch? I had a bike that did that, I had to use some WD40 and clean the dirt and grit out of the sidestand kill switch so it would work.

Quite possible try disconnecting the wiring on the handle for the clutch. I don't have a service manual but I am assumign the switch on the clutch lever is an ignition retard while shifting. See if unplugging it makes the bike die when at idle...

Just a thought and I am really reaching with this one: Put the bike up on a stand and see if the rear tire still spins when you are clutching...maybe the cable needs to be adjusted a whole lot more than what the dealer did.

No problem shifting on my c50, once a while it hit second intead of neutral when try to go to N but not very often.

I find the shifts on any bike i've had are a lot smoother after fresh oil.

Sometimes, I have to *blip* the throttle on downshifts. Something about these constant-mesh trannys makes them irritable in the lower range. A quick blip of the throttle, and it shifts much easier for me.

Keep us posted.

I have not had that problem with my C50, but it's only about 5 days from the dealer. However I had a 550 seca that had a very similar problem. What it ened up being was that strands in the clutch cable kept fraying and stretching out the cable. The bike was old, but the cable was fairly new. I replaced the cable, adjusted the clutch and all was well. Only a possibility? Hope that helps.

Hi Got it back yesterday. The dealer said, and I dont really understand this, but a pin in the trannsmission came loose. I rode it home and then a short ride and it seems ok, but am going to be nervous now, wondering if itll come out again. They really seem to think its a great machine, as we all do aspecially with the fuel injection. Thanks to everyone for thier help, and have a safe 4th of July.
