Just get on. Look at it this way, almost everyone you know has been in a car accident. More that likely at least 1 was in a severe car accident.
Most if not all of them still drive a car, right?
QUOTE]

That was almost word for word what my next door neighbor told me when I told him about my friend who died only a few weeks back on his r6 and how it made me suddenly feel really uneasy about riding at all. Fear is fear, and I think I made the right choice in simply putting off riding for a few days. Once my head cleared I got right back on, knowing it's what I enjoy doing and what my buddy in heaven would tell me to do if he was still here. So glad I didn't do anything rash like *gulp* sell my brand new ride. Keep on riding and just do the best you can! Danger is everywhere, I mean you have deer over there, here in LA we have crazy people on cell phones drinking pepsi while eating a sandwhich. However, the end choice is ultimately yours...given you're a single mother, it's a choice that is very serious unfortunately compared to someone like me who's single and has no family or anyone really depending on me for anything.

Quack, right your are.

I hope I didn't come across as a bull with the horns out. You definately need time to ensure you are ready to ride.
You will know when you are ready.

I'm glad you didn't decide to give it up.

Well im am glad to see i am not the only one with reservations. I completely understand your situation except i was not the one that was injured. over the year i have lost 1/2 dozen friend to M/C accident which stopped me from riding many years ago. as i got older my responsibilties changes. I have a young son and a thriving business i need my hands for. about six months ago i took a bike course. and bought and M50 2 weeks ago and started riding again. my main worry is leaving my son with no dad especially these days but the desire to ride was ever so strong. The freedom is unexplainable. I still worry but for the most part i am worrying about the other person hitting me again something you cant control. I take many risk everyday in my primary job that i dont even think twice about i have been doing it so many years. But like was said before I dont want to be old and say i should have and it be to late. depending on your belief you only get one chance at this life so use it wisely. live your life. oh the hardest thing i ever did was to go back to where one of my friends was killed. im sure once you go back to where u had ur accident and make it through ok you will be able to relax a little more....this is getting to philsophical for me....oh just tell your son every day that you love him and show him that and you will have no regrets in the end when ever that is...

I have been riding for about 40 years and have come close to hitting deer twice in that time that I know of and both times were this summer. I think most of the danger lies in what hours you ride. In 39 years most of my riding was in the daylight hours, now I work second shift and ride home at 10:30 at night when deer are most active. The second night after I bought my Volusia I was riding home from work and had to lock em up to avoid 2 deer that ran right in front of me and I missed them by what seemed like inches. I love to ride and I am pretty sure if I hit a deer on my bike I would get another one and start riding as soon as possible. I believe you might as well not live if you are going to be afraid of what might happen to you each day. If your time comes it won't matter if you are on your bike or walking down the street all by yourself, you're gonna go. Ride safe and enjoy it.

First off, it wasn't your fault. So the talk of getting your skills back up seems a bit over stated to me.

Only you can decide if it is right for you to get back in the saddle. But don't question your ability. What happend to you would have happened to over 90% of us given the same situation.

Been to the other side twice- once with a heart attack, once after a stroke and organ shutdown.

Life here is for the living - which means you gotta live it.

But if you don't get any enjoyment out of riding - time to stop.

Default I have crashed....

And I got right back on.
Life is too short to not do the things you Love to do. You may be more careful now after the crash. That can only be a good thing. Being more aware now that these kind of things happen will keep you alive .....in my humble opinion.
Just like the others say...if it's your time you will go..if it's on a bike or slipping in the bathtub,or choking in a restaurant....Are you going to stop taking showers,,...Are you going to stop eating? Nope... So you have to enjoy this short time we are allowed here on Earth. What would I do?.....Get back on and Ride! If I am still able.

Always remember that you cant let fear control you. Understand why the fear is there, do what you can to limit it and have fun riding. We all have crashed or are going to crash sooner or later. Try to wear the gear needed to protect yourself and enjoy the fresh air blowing in your face.

You dont want to look back 10 years from now saying I should have got back on and being mad at yourself for not doing it.
