C50T Concerns - Motorcycle-Journal Forums

Hello, Just joined the forum. I haven't ridden in over 20 years but have been looking at the c50T to get back into this. Really love the bike but every review mentions two things and was wondering if any current owners could comment on this.

Does anyone feel the bike does not have sufficient stopping power with the single front brake? I'll generally be riding only 1 up with some gear so won't have a lot of weight.

What is the big deal with tube tires? Do they blow out more readily the tubeless or are they more dangerous in a blow out? Seems every reviewer comments on this.

Also, my two local dealers have pretty much said that the c50T sells so well that they don't deal much at all on it. Has this been everyone's experience in buying the bike?

A lot of questions but I really do appreciate the expertise on this forum.

I bought a C50T about 2 weeks and 300 miles ago!!........I don't ride it like it's a sport bike so the brakes are fine for me......and I'm no novice..........let's see............this year marks 36 years of riding for me...........as far as tube tires??.....well........up until about 25 years ago EVERY bike and car had em and I had NO MORE tire problems then than I do now!.............C50T's are selling like crazy in my area, but I bought mine at HondaEast in Maumee, Ohio for $7200 OTD....great dealer......I did have to wait about 10 days for mine to come in tho, he was sold out when I ordered one from him.....Finally, I wanna say ......this is a GREAT bike.....I can see why they are selling so fast!................a LOT of bike for the money!..........you'll be very happy with one!!!

Go for the C50 you won't be disappointed. Close to 7k out the door seems to be a pretty common price point. Then push them to throw in the 600mile service to close the deal (besides labor their only expense is 4qts of oil and a filter)

Back in the day of drum brakes on bikes we didn't worry about stopping, we just stopped, and they were no way close to the stopping power of a single disc brake!

I have take several trips riding 2 up and I have not found the brakes to be a problem. I have locked them twice due to cagers and they worked fine then. I do admit I don't go charging up to a light and hammer the brakes, I just throttle back and downshift and I find that I really don't need to apply brakes except for the last 50 feet but I just put a little pressure on the lever to show the brake light. I have close to 2000 miles and no problems so far.

I bought a C50 and added shield, bags, sissy bar, pipes... so pretty much I made a custom C50T. The brakes seem to be fine... I've also had to do some hard braking on a couple of instances and they worked good. I'm not saying that I wouldn't of appreciated a rear disk brake because I would of loved one, but the drum works. Been riding with me and the wife on it for over 1300 miles with no problems.

I just picked my c50T up couple of days ago. What a terrific bike!

I've only ridden it single so far, and have had no problems with stopping. If you were one to go heavy on the rear brake with your other bikes, this bike may take a little getting used to, but the balance between the two seems really good to me.

In addition to what the others already said, I should mention that the owner's manual does have specific instructions for breaking in the new tires to assure everything gets properly seated.

In regard to the fuel octane which you may wonder about as I did - the manual says 87 octane and because it has the electronic control system for the fuel injection, anything else (like higher octane) would only cost you mileage and performance which is something people who are familar with carburated systems may not be aware of.

Glad you like your C50; I knew that you would. On the octane usage.... I've been running 92 or 94 high test and I'm getting between 45 and 50 mpg.. Now that is pretty good if you knew how hard I drive this thing!
