Default Speaking of exhaust.....

I would like to add to my wishlist exhaust that sounds a little better then stock on my '08 C50, but not that obnoxious loud stuff. I'm looking for quality of sound, not volume (if that makes sense at all...does in my head)

Does this exist?

Why not try drilling a few holes in the back plate first...if not enough for you then debaffle them. I debaffled mine and it sounds pretty good!

I just drilled 3 1/2 in holes in the end of mine and it has good sound but not much more volume. I will most likely debaffle. I want more volume.

I did try to drill 1/2 inch holes in my pipes and I didn't like the results as much as I would expect. Then I cam across this thread http://www.motorcycle-journal.com/fo...fle-video.html and did exactly what the guy showed on the video there - debaffled my pipes. Now I am happy with the sound of my pipes. I spent about $25 for 2 hole saws, $6 for a spray can of heat resistant paint to cover the cuts and about half an hour to yank the baffles out.

hmmm.... so we drilled out the back plates of my husbands VTX 1300 and it sounds crappy at idle. sounds like a slow lawnmower engine with a rusted out exhaust... phuttt phutt phuttttttt... phuttt.... embarassing even.

Does the C50 with drilled holes...or fully debaffled...sound like that??? I am afraid now to debaffle my C50 .....

Annie,
View this video http://homepage.mac.com/lydanynom/iMovieTheater5.html

The guy who did this video shows what it sounds like before and after. It sounds really good. I love it. But hey, you know everyone is different.

Default Debaffling

Buying the tools today and pulling them out. The video in the link totally psyched me up. Can't wait to do it.

umm...well I...I went to debaffle my exhaust yesterday. Yea...uh....really the only thing I managed to accomplish was uh....umm...basically to reinforce the fact that I haven't a flippin clue what I'm doing. Yup. Now the inside of my exhaust has 8 3/8 inch holes and a lot of scratches. Yup, not going near the exhaust until it's being replaced.

Just go to HomeDepot and buy a spray can of black heat resistant paint. Spray it on those scratches and no one will notice them.

Good luck!

P.S. Don't forget to cover your bike and pipes with some cloth to protect from paint overspray

I don't really notice a difference other then the pfft pfft you were mentioning on decel. I thought you were crazy for trying to describe that noise, but then when I heard, first thoughts into my head were "pfft pfft" haha

That is where I started, drilled holes and got that "pfft pfft" sound. Then I went ahead and did exactly what that guy on the video did. It's way different. The other day my buddy who rides Harley Sportster with Screaming Eagle pipes came over and we went for a short ride. Debuffled pipes on my C50 were as loud as on his HD.

Default Debaffled

Yesterday I debaffled my pipes. I heard the C50 with some type of Vance and Hines pipes at the dealer, it's not quite as deep and loud as that, but it's definately way better. One of my friends, a crotch rocket rider, went for a ride with me, and he said it sounded awesome. He then took my baby for a spin and now wants to get rid of his bike and get a Boulevard. A fellow soldier of mine just returned from his 1 year tour in Afghanistan, he's a big HD guy, claims his pipes set off car alarms. I'm interested in hearing what he says about them, I'll post again when he does.

For the guy who drilled the holes and heard the pft pft sound. I definately don't have a pft pft, sounds a lot better than it did. Was hoping for louder, but for $30, I'm can't complain about the results. For anyone else who's nervous about it, i'm mechanically retarded, and did everything the guy on video did. Took 30-45 minutes, i taped up the outsides of the pipes and painted over the cut marks inside to prevent rust. Was more less easy. I have a 18V drill, and in the middle of the second pipe I had to change my battery.

2 questions for anyone to answer. Being a noob, how do i post a pic of my bike so it shows up when i make posts?

the other, anyone have any experience with different intake systems or filters?

I debaffeled mine this spring. I've put on about a thousand miles since then and I'm happy with the way it sounds. It's louder but not overly loud. My coworker also has a C50 and he wanted to do the debaffle after hearing mine.

I debaffled mine this past week, sounded pretty good, but didn't sound right to me.
I looked into the exhaust and seen another baffle plate with two small tubes about an inch in length and the hole where the removed baffle was located.
I used a long chisel and hammer to hack thru the three spot welds that held it in place. Now this sucker sounds good, the pft pft sound that was mentioned was still there, although very quiet but it was there, once that second baffle plate was removed the pft pft sound was gone.
The guys at the Suzuki dealer/shop are impressed...

I drilled 3 small holes in my exhaust plate and I like the sound alright. Its not annoying but not the wimpy sounding stock quietness either. However, I am now finding myslef wanting to go with a different look of pipe. I like a 2 into 1 , but cant find anything I like well enough to pay 6 arms and 2 legs for.

Dave,
I recommend the debaffle.... I did mine and really like the sound.... I cannot hear the phtt phtt anymore
You should try that before you spend all those arms and legs....

I did not take out the 'mickey' (the upper plate with 3 holes that looks like Mickey Mouse)...and dont think I will either...
