Default Valve Adjustment Successful – I think.

I spent 6.5 hours Saturday doing the deed and am pleased with the outcome. The bike has 9K on it and this is the first adjustment that was done and my first time doing it. (My 600 mile dealer service did not include this.) I am assuming they were all loose as the bike is MUCH quieter than before. The only noticeable noise now is ticking from the pistons. Most of the other clatter and tapping is gone. Idle is smooth, (it was before), acceleration seems much improved and the overall engine sound is much better. I didn’t use gauges, just the method of 1/8th turn of the set screw for intakes and ¼ turn for exhaust valves. It really made the job easier! I also replaced the plugs, there was a little carbon build up, but not enough to worry about. Took it for a test ride afterwards, rode 2up for about 80 miles, ran great! Big confidence booster for me, but I still wonder…

What would I expect if the valves were improperly adjusted too tight? Too loose?

Thanks,
