Default Rear Turn Signal Replacement Advice?

Backing out of the driveway a few weeks ago my wife clipped the left rear turn signal and broke it off. I ordered a replacement turn signal. In looking at the very limited directions that came with the replacement signal it looks like there is a regular bolt holding the housing onto the bike.

Now here's my questions:

How do I get to the bolt? Do I need to remove the entire rear chromed unit? If so I am not certain just how that is done?

Has anyone replaced their rear turn signals and if so how did you do it? Thanks.
