Smile New to the Forum But have questions.

Hello everyone. I am a owner of a 2005 c50 and love it. Got all the upgrades. Engine guard, saddle bags, pipes, windsheild, light bar, just about everything that would make it look awesome i got. I loe the bike. I got some Vance and Hines long shots pipes for it and installed them in spet of 05. They sounded great. Over the winter I took the bike to the dealer for a check engine light and they said my throddle sensor wasnt set right. They brought the bike back back to me and it sat for the rest of the winter. Well we all waited for the warm day again and i got it out and hit the highway. I noticed now when you get on the throddle that you hear a ping sound coming out of the exhaust. I talked to a few people around here and they told me to install the baffels which i would rather not. But you only really notice the ping sound when you are under heavy acc or on the interstate. Can any give me any thoughts? I would really appricate it. Btw I dont know if i need one of the fuel commanders or not. I dont have one installed now.

"Throttle".

Is that bike EFI? Sounds like it might be lean. What do you guys think?

Welcome, Jalexa.

I dunno...this is too vague.

Pinging certainly is a symptom of too lean of a fuel delivery, which in turn can cause detonation.

This noise can be coming from anywhere. Since the tank was off, it could possibly be the good old gas tank sliding around or vibrating on its pucks.

It could be the pipes. Certain unbaffled drag pipes just by nature of their design, have been known to have "sharp" reports that could be described as a ping.

It's tough to isolate sound on a moving motorcycle. It could be anything. Have you checked the oil level?

Well...let's start this one thing at a time.

If/when you hear the noise...Is it under throttle?

Does it go away if you squeeze your knees on the tank?

If yes..great you're done. If no, move on.

Next, check your exhaust header flange bolts. Are they tight? (12-14 lbs is sufficient.)

Could be a leak there.

Next check the bolts that hold the exhaust to the frame.

The bike is EFI. You dont really notice the noise until you are on the gas. if you are looking strait forward you dont hear it all to much but you hear it when you are on the interstaet and you turn your head to the right. I have checked the blots and the brackets to make sure everything was tight cause i thought that at first. It does sounds like it is just out of the tail pipes. The thing i am not sure of the first year i had the pipes on it i had no noise to them untill the dealer did the throddle position work to it. Then i noticed it when i got it back out.

Squeeze your knees against the tank, and then get back to us on that.

No kidding.

Here's a thought, if those pipes are debaffled, there is that second mickey back there isn't there? If theres a broken weld, the metal vibrating from the engines movement could produce a sound similar to that wouldn't it?...just a thought.

I'd give those pipes a kick when it's sitting on it's stand and see if you can hear that noise when the motor is off.

I have heard time and time again in this forum and another I frequent, that just changing your pipes don't call for a after market fuel processor. The guy I bought my PC3 from who tunes bikes for a living told me that was B.S. If you change your pipes, you are changing your back pressure and that can lean a bike out. I still have stock pipes and I wasn't talking about buying any so I think he was sincere.
