Default removing the passenger seat

As some of my friends out there already know, I'm new to motorcycling AND....

I'm thinking of removing the passenger seat on my '06 C50 for a different look. I never ride 2-up and thought I'd go for a change w/o spending $$.

Question #1: removing the passenger seat, is it just a matter of taking off the screw behind the seat (on the rear fender) with my hex-wrench?

Question #2: once removed, what is a good (inexpensive) way to cover the hole left on the rear fender?

QUESTION #3: any precautions I need to take to protect the passenger seat/motorcycle during this process?

ANY/ALL advice is gladly accepted. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

HAPPY RIDING to all!
