Default lowers

Thanks for the info. I just got off the phone with Buck and ordered a set of lowers. I don't know if they will completely do the trick but I believe they will certainly help....on to some sort of heated and vibration eliminating hand grips.

I just finished a 5k mile journey on an FJR. I had quite a bit of weather and some cold. My hands are really sensitive to the cold and it made parts of the trip kinda nasty. I suspect heated hand grips will help but I wonder if some sort of hand enclosures might be more effective.

Default New to this Forum

Greetings, I'm new to this forum and new to riding. I just picked up by 950 tourer last Saturday and rode for the first time in 35 years. It was like I never left the sport. The bike is a big reason it's been so easy to get back on the road.

I glad to hear about the liner lowers. I was about to head down to my dealer to get a taller windshield, but now I'm thinking the lowers are what I need. At 45mph I start to get lots of turbulance. At 55 it feels like someone is beating my on the side of my head.

So are I'm loving the bike and hope to see you on the road.

Default lowers

hey dbrock,

I bought the lowers last week and should get them asap. I'll tell you how they work out. I'm about 5 10 with a 32 in inseam. I'm hoping they will negate much of the buffeting/low windshield? problems

I'm 5 10 with a 33 inseam. I will be very interested to see how those work for you.

I'm trying to come up with something to keep my hands warm for 5 or 6 hour days of riding. Any concensus on whether heated grips or heated gloves are better and is there something better out there I am not aware of?

hey DBrock

I put those lowers on today and am pleasantly surprised on how effective they are. Like I said, I'm about 5 10 w/ a 32 in inseam and my stock 950 touring windshield felt definitely too short. The lowers really make a difference. I can't do a definitive before and after but I can say the buffeting and the wind on my chest area is greatly reduced. At this point, even on long distance rides in cooler weather, I don't believe I need a higher windshield.

Bub, Thanks for the update.

I'm thinking I need both a taller windshield and the lowers. I was looking at the VSTAR accessories for the 950. Star Motorcycle, Star Motorcycles, Yamaha motorcycle, V Star The smallest windshield is 16 3/8. I measured mine (stock tourer) and it is only 15 inches. What gives? Did they do this just so they could sell a bunch of windshields? Probably, cause they might get my money..... again.

Default V Star 950

Had mine for a month now, love it. Handles great, it's long and takes more room to turn around than our Ninja 250... but it handles wonderfully, low center of gravity, lots of torque... and 54 mpg. (and I'm 6'1 and 300lbs!!)

Default Engine Guards

I'm thinking about buying a 950 and I noticed the engine guards on your pictures. Who makes it and how do you like it? Thanks.......

Also, I was getting a lot of wind buffeting at first, but I installed a set of Buck's Lowers and they made a world of difference.

That's the stock OEM "Big Bar Engine Guard", p/n 5S7-F43B0-V0-00, list $179.95. I've since bolted on the Kuraykyn articulating pegs that I had on my C50. For me, they are perfectly located so that I can rest my heel on the front of the floor board, and my foot on the peg.

My only reservation with the 950 are the floorboards. I've owned a few M50s and like the foot pegs. How do you find the cornering on the 950? It's a subjective question as people ride different but I plan on riding it very easy and half of the time it will be with my spouse so my cornering effort won't be aggressive and was curious if you find the floorboards are easy to scrape......

Everything I've read says they scrape fairly easy. I've got nearly 7000 miles on it now, and I've touched down twice -- once was while 2 up. So, I guess this is the kind of thing that's affected by what you do. FWIW, the 950 has replaceable slides on the floorboards for when you finally scrape one time too many.

I've got over 2k miles on my 950 and scraped the left feeler once, and did that on purpose. I do ride 2up with my wife, so if your leaning is not very aggressive you'll be ok.
