Well, as of today, there doesn't seem to be a new 950 at any of the three local (within 30 miles) dealers that I've contacted and left my name with.

I agree that it may be somewhat of a "sellers" market but in the current economy, I also have to believe that the dealers will want to "move" their inventory they're paying "juice" on...even the not yet recieved inventory.

Most dealers I've spoken to have indicated that they plan on "dealing" and discounting the price....but as you suggest, that amount may be slight.....oh well, right now the $9,000 is sitting comfortably in MY pocket. We'll see, there's a big cycle show in Chicago in February perhaps the deals there may be better..........but for now, as far as I know the new 950 isn't in the Chicago area yet.

ah yes, the old "it's so hard to find, people will clamor for it" trick.

The 950s are at the dealers now. I just bought the first one that my dealer received last Friday. As far as custom accessories, Star offers 67 items of which 30 are exclusive to the 950, and they are available right now, I purchased an engine guard today and will be at my dealer this coming Wednesday.

so is the 950 taking over from where the 1100s were a generation ago?

Yes,,,, according to my dealer this is the last years for the 1100. The sales manager went to the new bike showing in Las Vegas rode the 950 at length and said that the 950 runs circles around the 1100, costs less all the way around and has better fuel mileage.

It makes me wonder if the ST1300 isn't going to capture more of the market the goldwing used to have.

for much the same reasoning you mentioned.

I think you're correct on that point.

Well....I've only found ONE 950 amongst the dealers in the Chicago area. Everyone says that they will "eventually" get them but so far only ONE in the area and its not the Tour model that I want. I'm beginning to think its a way for dealers to ask top dollar by claiming that they are "rare".....in these tough economic times I'm not sure how smart that is. No matter how much I want the bike, I know that if I wait I'll save money.

I plan on going to the Cycle World show in the Chicago area in February and hope to see all of the 950 models and colors there....but I have my doubts.

I still like the 950 over the Honda Shadow series, and Kawasaki 900 series, because of the newer technnology, new design and a much improved ride over the "long in the tooth" Honda's and Kaw's

it makes a good argument for "buying something else"

even if it's a measely used M50.

that should through some fuel on the fire.

Default Hello, V-Star riders!

This is my first post and I'm not sure it's going into the right place but I gotta learn sometime. I ordered a brand new V-Star 950 Black Cherry Tourer on Wednesday and although it won't get here until March, I figured I'd look for a forum so I could learn a little about it and get some feedback from some folks that have had theirs for a while. I'm up here in "cold" New York State so riding season won't really start until March or April although I do manage to get out on one of my bikes maybe once every couple of weeks just to keep the pistons moving. Right now I own a Suzuki C-50 (805 cc's) and a Triumph Bonneville (865 cc's) Small man, small motorcycles...The 950 will be a "big bike" for me but with a 26.6" seat height I can flat foot it with bent knees, I'm fired up! I have both of my bikes up for sale, partly because I need $$$ for the new one and also that I decided to go back to just one bike to save on insurance and to eliminate the turmoil as to which one I should ride today.
I'm an old retired geezer so I have plenty of time to ride...I'm looking forward to hearing about some of you're riding experiences with the 950

Greetings Everyone,

This is my first post and I'm happy to say that I'm a proud owner of a new 950 Tourer. I upgraded from a Shadow 600 and I'm very impressed. The extra power and gear made all the difference. The 600 was a great trainer but I just didn't have the confidence to mix it up on the freeway with it.

I have put 200 miles on it in three days, went out to the lake and around town and it does both with ease. Plan to take it out on the Interstate next weekend and open her up even more. So far the low windshield is working but the interstate will be the true test.

the extra displacement has more power, but more importantly, more torque.

That torque will also develop at much lower rpm's which will allow you to "lug" along in 5th gear at 40, or less.

Ok, here is the deal. I bought this bike for $7499 (was able to deal a little) and bought the 2 year ext warranty and the 3 year maint plan. Being this is a new year bike I will be totally covered if any thing comes up. These bikes are going to sell very well! I love mine and the price point was very good. You are getting a lot of bang and bike for your buck. Not to mention the bike is very smooth and feels very balanced for a bike that weighs 600lbs. That was the first thing I noticed when I pulled it up from the stand. It did not feel like a big heavy bike. After riding this bike I was sold! I did not buy the tourer because I am going to put soft bags on it and the med size windshield. The other guy did have it right, don't be disappointed because the tourer comes with a small windshield, because it has a low seat and an average rider will prob only need the small shield. I am 6ft and I will only be buying the med shield, so keep that in mind. The MPG on this bike is almost 50mpg so if I had my choice I would take the 950 over the 650 any day! Belt drive, fuel inject how can you go wrong, not to mention the bike looks great!

cool; probably wouldn't have bought the ext maintenance package, but that's just me.

Although, on a model new as this is, buying the extended this and that may really pay off.

Does CNY = Central New York?

Where abouts? I cruise through the eastern side (Bingamton, Utica, Oneonta) fairly regular..
