Bike: Yamaha - V-Star 1300T
Posts: 17
| I am getting a new motorcycle, I have it narrowed down to 2 bikes, the Honda VTX1300t or the Yamaha V-star 1300t. I know this is a V-star riders board, but can you tell me why you choose to buy a V-star 1300t over a Honda vtx 1300t. This is my first bike at 56 years of age. I will be takeing the government sponsered motorcycle drivers course. Gadegts don't matter, I am after a good reliable bike with as little matience as possible. Tks Reboot |

| I'd go with the VTX 1300. No particular reason as both are great bikes and the owner of either would be happy. The VTX just connects with me more so than the V-Star.

| Newbie | I was in the same boat 2 months ago before I bought my V Star. Both bikes have their + & -. I've riden them both back to back, in my opinion here are a few things that I noted: VTX-brakes better than the V Star, has a lower riding position which gives you a little windbreak from the gas tank, cold blooded & takes a while to warm up, equal to the V Star in acceleration. V Star-handles better than the VTX, more comfortable seat than the VTX, has a low fuel light/tripometer which comes in handy, fuel injection is slick, higher riding position so you feel more like you're sitting on top of the bike as opposed to in it, good high beam for night riding, good placement of "select" button on right handle bar. Those are just a few of my observations. Bottom line is that they're both good bikes & I really can't see either one being a bad choice. |

| Prior to purchasing my V Star 1300T in June, I also looked seriously at the Honda VTX 1300T, plus a few other bikes. The main deciding factor for the Yamaha V Star over the Honda was its fuel injection.

I have a buddy with the new 1300 V-star and another with the VTX...the v-star is more comfortable and imo sounds and handles better. That being said....the Honda is a better looking bike. If i had a choice, after riding both, i think the Yamaha is a more refined machine.

| My father in law rides a VTX and has no gripes about the bike, he wishes he had tubeless tires after a tire debocle with the dealer ruining a replacement tube. As for my star1300, I know it makes more power but, it does it at a higher RPM, it has a tall 5th gear so it cruises at a very low rpm on the highway. A twist of the throttle at hwy speeds in 5th brings so-so passing power. A shift into 4th brings out an inner R1 with plenty of instant throttle response. PS the windshield on the star 1300 is waaayy to big for my taste. I prefer a detatchable slimmer Memphis shield I have.

| My husband rides the VTX 1300 (carbs)... I ride a C50 (FI). We have ridden over 11,000 mi together now and I have never seen a single incident where my bike started or operated any different becasue of the FI. I wouldnt let that influence me either way. How it fits your body is MUCH more important.... Quote:

The Yamaha is simply a much better built bike. It walks away and humiliates the Honda offering. This was also the opinion of just about every magazine which reviewed all cruisers in showdowns. More times than not, the Kawasaki's were rated #2 behind Yamaha. But we have Victory and Triumph to include in these road tests and so far nobody has mixxed them up with the Jap cruisers. And of course, Harley is in there with either dead last or #2 reviews depending if you into Harley's or not. Funny how you can go from last place to #2 amongst the reviewers articles based on whether or not you have a Harley in the garage. Charlie | |
