Default 2003 v star problems

Hello everyone. I just bought a 2003 V Star 1100 with about 3000 miles last week. Unfortunately I did not test drive the bike enough and I am paying for it now. After several minutes of riding The bike will not come to a normal idle. While in between shifts or much worse at idle the revs will not settle until sitting for a minute or two, at idle the bike still sounds like you are doing about 50 mph. I took it to a local shop and he replaced the vacuum hoses only for the problem to remain, after taking it back when the problem persisted he said I might need to take it to the local Yamaha dealership, ouch. This is my first cruiser and I am not even able to enjoy it. Any advice, thanks.

I just bought an '04 VStar 650 Classic with <3k mi. and had the same symptoms. I took it in and they found that the idle screw was turned in all the way. (previous owner?) At any rate, $20 later I'm happy.

Cool

I would have to agree with jajmon, try the idle screw first. It is on the left hand side of the bike inbetween the clyinders.
Hope that helps,
Seth

3 weeks ago I bought a used 2007 V-star 1300T with 3500 miles on it. It's a beautiful bike but it won't go into first gear the first time I push down with clutch in and the normal "clunk" is heard. This seems to be happening during the first 15 minutes of riding. Any clues out there?

try rocking the bike foreward or backward while letting some pressure off the clutch while in first gear.

I just bought a 2003 1100 V-Star classic with 6800 kms. It seemed to idol low, so during the safety I had them bring it up a bit. No problems since. I think it could be just the tuning of the bike from the factory, or the previous owner was tinkering with it.
