Default Plugs and oil in air filter element

Did some checking of the bike today. Have two questions. Spark plugs and air filter. On previous bikes, very easy to do, this one, not so much. First, how did any of ya'll get that front cylinder plug out? Only way I can see is to lift the tank. I have a garage full of tools, but with that angle and NO space, no tool in my box could do it. Hell, the spark plug socket couldn't even get in there. My guess, lift the tank. Second, I have changed many many air filters in my time, and have never come across traces of oil in the filter. When I loosened this one, oil was dripping out. A major concern? The filter didn't look clean enough for me, so I think I am going to replace it.
The rear cylinder plug looked ok to me, no burns, good color. Just want to check out that front one, but man, hard to get at. Thoughts from anyone on either question?

reguarding the oil in filter. Lostcajun replied to a post a couple of days ago about an 1100 oil leak.
