Default Debadge and AIS removal

Debadge and AIS removal went very smoothly. Will take some pics of the debadge and let you know the difference the removal of the AIS does with the popping. Used Goo Gone Xtreme I picked up at Lowes and a golf shoe shoelace to lift the badges. Most of the spongy glue came off with the badges, but the left over came off with a little elbow grease. AIS removal was pretty easy, with the exception of fitting and tightening the rear cyclinder bolt on the elbow joint. Just a tight squeeze to fit a wrench in there. Going to test out the removal of the AIS this evening. The tutorial on the removal I found here was pretty straight forward, and as luck would have it, I did not have to loosen the rear exhaust bolts at all to removal that side of the AIS pipe.

Very pleased that the AIS removal got rid of most of the popping. Still a little, but no where near as much on decel.

How long did it take you to debadge the bike?

Not long at all. I'd say maybe an hour and 15 mins or so to do all 6 badges. Hardest badge was on the side panel where the battery box is, that emblem left alot of glue behind it. Word to the wise, what I did was masked off around each badge a few inches with painters tape, and draped a towel over the engine under the tank and over the wheel and forks for each badge removal. Saves alot of time cleaning up the goo gone that will run down.

I first used fishing line, but even with gloves, it wasn't working out well. It also snapped on me several times. I ended up using an old golf shoe shoelace, and the thickness of it was perfect. Just tape off and cover up if you so chooese, spray on the goo gone, wait a few minutes, then work the shoelace through. I sprayed the glued area several more times to loosen it up. Once the spray saturated the glue, a fingernail can pretty much get rid of it, if not, I used a papertowel. Good luck and be sure to post before and after pics!

Where in Lowes (which department) did you find the Goo Gone Extreme?
All I could find was professional Goof Off.

Found it tucked away in the paint/paint removal section. Believe it was aisle 2 or 3. Assuming all stores are set up the same. Pic of can I used attached.
Here is the UPC code and item number, I'm sure if you ask someone there, they can look this up on their computer and find exactly where it is in the store: UPC 033873107484 item 710748

are the badges on the tank under the clear coat? It looks like they are, I just don't want to screw anything up.

Default Exhaust

Hey Bigs,
Tell me about your exhaust are they the slipons or the full exhaust? I am torn between the V&H or cobra slipons. I do not want obnoxious but I am weary of the stock exhaust, especially when I ride with my buddy who has a VTX 1300 and his sounds like a MOTORCYCLE and mine sounds like a sewing machine!

They are slip-ons. Nice low rumble at a stop. Really only get loud when the throttle is rolled. I like them, and the "book value" is low.

I'm pleased with my AIS removal as well, definitely got rid of the majority of popping on decel. I actually removed mine the same day I installed a set of Baron"s Nasty Boy Slasher slip-ons. One tip I picked up from a friend that worked REALLY well regarding the AIS removal/plug install was to freeze the plugs and heat up the cylinder just a bit. Doing this made the plug go in very easily. Once the plug sits for a little while, it expands back to normal size as it heats back up.

hey I just did the lazy mans way and by-passed the air thig a ma jig and got the same results in only 5 minutes and the poping is 99% gone love my bike even more. Plus my bike still has lots of chrome to shine!Just take off one line on the chrome pipes and attach to the other and put the extra rubber pipe on the air pump and install a golf tee in the small line leading to who knows where . My cobra slip ons never sounded better

Careful with the lazy man's way. Some research I found when I was doing mine said that fuel could build up in the air lines by just leaving them on the bike and plugging them up. Not a good thing. This will cause them to corrode alot faster as well. Can't remember where I saw this notice, but do a google on AIS removal and you may find what I am talking about.
