Default New Vstar 1300 owner!

Hello,

I signed papers on a V13 today. I got the 07, black, with sissy bar and handle bars thrown in the deal along with an extra 6 months warranty free. They always know how to get me to sign the papers!

I pick it up on tuesday so wish me luck!

I'm checking out a leftover '07 VStar 1300. What kind of MPG's do they get? Does the 1300 have the same oil filter change issue as the 1100?

Hey Bud, I picked up and 08 VStar 1300. They did fix the oil filter problem, all you need is a cap to fit the filter and a torque wrench.

I got mine at the end of the '07 riding season (New England) but I did manage to get a few decent rides in and found I was getting 46 MPG and thats hauling my fat a$$ around. YMMV

Bought an 07 V Star 1300.....anyone replace the grips with something "chromier" yet???? I noticed the nuts to tighten down the mirrors have opposing threads....I think the threads for one of the mirrors is reversed. Why is this??

So that when you get a leeetle too close to the telephone pole, the mirror swings away instead of bending

Thanks! I never would have figured that out. I was worried that everything on that side of the bike would be like that!

Just a thought on replacing the grips. Is it possiable to lengthen the the rotation of the throttle to make for a more even roll on from low speeds?

Default Accessory Power Wires on V-Star 1300???

Anyone know if there are any accessory power wires or terminals on the 1300? I'm going to hook up a cigarette lighter power receptacle for my GPS and need to know if I have to power it right off of the battery or if there is a place for accessory power.

Thx.

I too am a happy 1300 owner and have done a lot of cool stuff. I bought a power outlet from a auto parts store and wired it into the battery. The outlet is mounted in the left saddle bag. Oh I have the tourer model. You can get great new grops from Kuryakan, not sure I spelled that right, but you get the idea. I took the sissy bar off and bought a great trunk from Mutazu with a wrap around back rest. My loves it and it looks great with the new luggage rack. I', having so much fun spending money on it. Here's to all the 1300 owners. Don

Default Grips

Don,

If you'd share some info on the K grips. Do the grips have any 'slop' ? When I tried to put them on the ID of the grip was not very close to the OD of the bars. I called the vendor and even K to see if I was missing something but it seems I had the right kit. Ended up returning them. Also any extra vibes in the bars after loosing the end weights? Glad your enjoying the bike. I replaced my seat with a Mustang it's a whole different ride, I love it.

I know you have to to be careful to get the right grips. They are so great a real improvement over the stock ones. I would recommend that you get the addition of the throttle boss. It really helps to slowly put the power on. It also allows you to just rest your hand on the throttle. It gives a little break. I may eventually buy a cruise control. A friend got one for his 1300 and it works great. All mechanical, not electronic. I think I got my grips at Cruiser Customizing. They have lots of stuff. You might check ebay for a cheaper price, but its nice getting the right parts the first time. Don

On 6/28, I traded in my '06 Suzuki 805cc S50 on an '08 V-Star 1300T, charcoal and silver. My wife and I couldn't be happier with my choice of the V-Star. In consideration also were the Victory Vegas, Suzuki C90T and Kawasaki 1500.

Good to hear all the positive comments. I'm thinking about getting one soon. Probably the tourer. Anyone ride an 1100 V Star before their 1300? What kind of handling differences did you notice?

I did. I tried out an 1100 custom, there were some after market bits like DG exhaust and risers. I like the way it handled , the 1300 was a a little more comfortable a ride and had more power way hi-way speeds. But, around town I liked the 1100's more linear power delivery. The 1300 reminds me of a Civic Si I once owned. Not as much fun at low revs, but after the cam opened up it was deceptively quick. I am very happy with my purchase.
