Default 2003 650 "gummed up"

I have a 2003 v star 650 that I just purchased from an auction. The bike is like new. it only has 1500 miles on it. It has been sitting for quite some time. When I started it it will only idle with the choke on. It will not rev up either. Is the carburetor just gummed up with bad gas and buildup? If I take the carbs off of it and clean them will that potentially clean it out? Any advice will be great thanks.

if it has been sitting you need to drain the gas tank, pull the carbs and thoroughly clean them. You should also check for vacuum leaks at the carbs boots, and check the vacuum hoses for cracks and leaks.

if you dont want to take off the tank and everything you can run some seafoam in the tank and see if that helps break up the gummed up carbs. cleaning the carbs will definitely help with this problem. also try to get rid of that old gas and fill it up with some fresh stuff. let us know if these things work.
