| Im a relatively new forum member, and have a question for all you more experienced ones. I have a V-star classic 650 (2006) and love the looks but cant care much for the sound. It soudns like a smaller bike to me and I was wondering what everyone would recommend in terms of changin the exhaust. Ive done my share of research and everyone seems to love the Vance and Hines shortshots. The problem is, I love the look of the stock pipes, and wouldnt want that to change too much, all the other pipes ive seen are thinner or shorter and im not sure if id like that. So trying to figure out what my best otion would be. Any help is much apreciated. |

| M-J.Com Master Poster ![]() | I can say dont debaffle the stock exhaust, cause it really sounds like crap. My buddy did his and it sounded like a cracking pop can. Hard Kromes look nice, but I dont know what they would sound like on your set-up.

| Taimoor, I have a 1998 v-star 650 Classic - and I would recommend the Bub's Big Willy straights - they are staggered and long and they sound great - nice deep rumble and I can only say that they will sound better after I get a tune-up an possibly a hypercharger or some other air intake to get more into the engine now. I had the factory pipes on mine initially and hated the sound. I know other people have spoke highly of the Hard Krome and Vance pipes..both are good but I like the Bub's. Check them out on Google...great pipes, great sound, decent price too. I have not jetted my carbs yet...I plan doing this because my new pipes are less restrictive then the stock ones....that is my 2 cents. Good luck and I hope this helps!

| U have now got me thinking.. can i really do this myself.. everywhere ive asked theyre charging me close to $400 to do the pipes, plus they want me to bring in the bike on a trailer, sign a release and take it off on a trailer...... re jetting and what not and I know nothing about all of this, but am willing to learn. Can I realistically do all of this myself... what is involved. Do i have to re jet... do anything to the carbuerator?... would love your opinion...

| you can easily do everything yourself. it is not worth it to pay someone $400 for things you can do yourself. go to this website and it shows you how to do everything. Performance Info go to hyper charger and re jetting and it shows you how to re jet the carbs. this is a really helpful site for everything you will need to do to your bike. have you thought about any air modifications? hyper charger, GAK, RAK. if you do the exhaust, an air mod, and re jet it will be a totally different bike.

Here's mine..... While you CAN do it all yourself, $ 400 is a fair price IF it is a "real" shop with CO meters and the other equipment necessary to tell for sure that it is really right after it is done. Don't assume: ask. How many "everywhere" places have you really asked? Sign a release.......WTF? Trailer in and out......double WTF? I'd steer clear of that place. I find it hard to believe that they ALL have those stipulations. If you are mechanically inclined (realistic honest assesment), then go for it. Get a shop manual first. If you are really uneasy about DIY, then seek out a good shop or just live with what you got. If you DIY and it goes sour, you may HAVE to trailer it in and it might cost you more than $ 400 in the end. | |

| My wife's VStar 650 has V&H cruisers on it and they rock. You can do this yourself and you really don't need to re-jet. If you change the intake you'll need to re-jet.

| Hello I'm new to the boards so forgive me for asking a redunant question, but... Ive got an 07 V star 650 and i was looking to put the V&H short SHots on it based on what I have heard about them but i have a few questions first. Will i need to rejet at all? ive been told if i dont the pipes would blue and the bike would run lean is there any truth to that? Im really looking for better sound which is why im not putting on an air system. Thanks for the imput.

| Hey EasyGT, there is very little action here. I too have an 07 650 V-star. I'm looking to get new pipes for mine. I'm hooked on 'Hard-Krome' pipes. You will need to re-jet. Hard-Krome - World's First Non-bluing Pipes Hard-Krome pipes don’t turn blue.
