Default New V-Star 1300

You gotta check out the new V-Star 1300. Not a bad looking ride, and at a decent price. FI, water cooled, belt driven, and good looking to boot! ust announced Sunday night on the Starmotorcycles.com site. I love my Star, but I think this is the wave of the future. Do you think the 1100's are going by the wayside soon??

I know I just bought my H-D Ultra but this is really what I was looking for. I think it's the end of the line for 1100 though, showed this to my brother in law he likes what he sees so far on paper hope he checks it out.

Just looked at that bike on the Yamaha website. Very nice. I love the lines and the fact that it's water cooled.

I hear that. I have the M95 built by Kawasaki. It has a seamless tank.. Very finished look. Even the new M109r has seams.

I think Suzuki will get that detail out of the way. They just need to take that final small step with the cruiser line. The bikes are great, but that last little tweak will push them over the top. Stepping up the accessories offered would be a plus as well. I was blown away when Yamaha sent me the Star catalog. WOW. Even some very nice shirts and jackets. Not the phone book that HD has, but very nice stuff, and things folks want! (OK, so the paperweight and pen set are silly, but at least it's there!)

I have sat on the V Star 1300 and it feels really well balanced. Everyone who sat on it when I was around were very impressed. It looks great too.
If I were to buy a bike today I am pretty certain that it would be the 1300

Default v star 1300

I have not seen one yet, hoping to would like to know what the vibrations are like, sold my 03 intruder 1400, between ankle and knee damage the I could only ride the bike for 30 to 40 miles before the pain would start up. I have a 85 v65 magna fast as heck, smooth as silk, but just like a sports bike for 2up.
Was looking at the RSTD but the weight is kinda scaring me with the fore mentioned injuries.

When you get your bike tell me what the the ride is like.
thanks
dan

I like it. I still favor the Hinda VTX1300c looks-wise, but on paper the V Star has more pluses by far. Belt instead of shaft. EFI instead of carb. Dual front brakes. Slightly larger front tire. 20 lbs. lighter. Swingarm rear with more travel. If they come up with a chopped fender version (like the custom), this might be my next bike someday.

If the 1300 looks as good in person, I'll have to start scheming on one!

V-Star 1300 Update; I took a new one out for a few miles this afternoon...
Bring your checkbooks boys, this is a nice bike!

It's well balanced, with fairly neutral steering feel, even at low speeds. CG is so low, the weight is very deceiving (feels light).

Gearbox and clutch are crisp and direct. The power will surprise you, this thing friggin' gets with it! The gearing feels tall, and the motor wants to rev and build power in a linear way, that adds up to getting up some serious speed quickly.

This bike performs on par with the best 1500-1600 cruisers out there.

Suspension feels supple, much nicer ride than a lot of bikes. Probably need to jack up the rear shock to push it around the curves fast...

I shouldn't have ridden it, though... Makes my M50 pale a bit, in comparison. And that doesn't often happen... Besides, my honey would go ballistic about another bike in the garage. Can't be gettin' rid of any, you know...

I've ridden this bad boy. It's very nice, well balanced, and it feels pretty quick, and believe me, it is, but I like Honda's 1300 more.

The fuel injection is a plus, but the belt drive kills it. Shaft drive, in my opinion, is better. The VTX actually, believe it or not, has an even lower center of gravity. The VTX is like one of those inflatable toys that pops back up when you punch it. Moreover, the VTX has a little bit of a nicer ride, and it's just as fast, but it doesn't feel fast. The Vulcan feels really quick.

Why is the VTX the better bike?
Shaft drive
Lower center of gravity
Looks great
Feels much bigger
Brakes are better. Yes, that's right, the single disc works better than the dual.

Why is the Vulcan a better bike?
Feels much faster

That's basically how I see it.

Strange, most people seem to slightly favor belt drive over shaft, claiming they are almost as low in maintenance but waste less energy. Why does the belt "kill it"?

i work at yamaha dealership and i currently own a 06 1100 star. its got a hyperchrager (which is a waste of money) and bub jug huggers on it. some other odds and ends and stuff. i rode the 1300 and all in all it did not impress me. the only thing i would brag on it about would be how smooth the powerplant is. hardly no vibrations at all. i think that stock for stock the 1100 and 1300 will run the same. havent had a chance to run them side by side yet. soon as i do i will let you know.

I got the red V* 1300 Tourer on Monday and it is nicer, soomther and faster then I thought or even hoped for, it will suprise some out there. It was a long wait but very well worth it. I have to run now it is going to be 61 today here in central Wisconsin and the bike is calling to me for a ride. Not many riding days left. I will post later.

Regards,

Rich King

I got the V*1300 Tourer this last monday 11/6/06 and have 425 miles on it today 11/9/06.

For the break in I did it like suggested by MotoMan at Break In Secrets--How To Break In New Motorcycle and Car Engines For More Power I have had lots of cars over the last 45 years and always broke them in fast and they were fast compared to others with the same engine, so I completely agree that you ride it like you stole it.

The reason that the owners manual tells you to break it in easy is because the don't want any law suits from accidents caused by speeding. I also am not recomending that you do what I did. That's my disclaimer, LOL. Just break it in slooow. HEE HEE

The first 30 miles (after proper warm-up) I left the dealer and ran it to 40 in 1st let off and down to 20 and shifted, 60 in 2nd let off and down to 30 and shifted to 3rd up to 90 let off and down to 45. Next turned onto a long stretch of open clear road for 10 miles. I repeated the procedure several times for the 30 mile round trip taking it to the rev limiter in first produced 60 in 1st, 80 in 2nd, and 100+ in 3rd. I didn't do the procedure in 4th or 5th gears. After I returned to the shop we drained the oil and replaced the filter. The oil was strained and we found some small particules, as expected, from the break-in and also some in the oil filter.

I then drove it on a few day trips varying speed but not running it hard, like the first 30 miles except for a few short bursts but not to the rev limiter.

I topped off the gas tank and the first 129 miles used 2.91 gallons = 44.5 MPG. The next tank 148 miles used 3.51 gallons = 42.6

I hope you all find this information helpfull.

Regards,

Rich King

Congtrats on the 1300, I'm a fan of them myself. I decided to go for a previous interest, the Vulcan 900 Classic. I'm lovin' it, as I'm sure you are yours!

Hey Rich,

Just starting to see the 1300's coming into our shop, great bike.

Kuryakyn released their fitment list for the bike. Would you mind surfing around on our site and passing on your feedback. Happy to send you a free T-Shirt for your trouble.

V-Star 1300

Thanks,

Bob
