I just got my bike from the dyno and I tell you what a different. It feels that a have a different bike alltogether. The increase on horse power when from 67 to 80 just with the tear drop air filter along. I don't have to install a power commander since the combo of cobras pipes and filter burn the fuel not to reach not to lean. Just call the guys at Thunder Manufacturing or go to the website. A foto of my bike will be there soon. Good luck.

I'm finally back from my deployment and trying to get a summers worth of riding done before the snow flies. I changed my oil before leaving with the Yamalube (damn expensive) oil and filter, I didn't bother with the valve check. I've been told unless they're out of adjustment all the techs do is give them the once over. Of course the once over costs about $220 along with the oil change. I could get a 15,000 mile check done on my Pontiac for that kind of money and at least they're be replacing stuff. By the way chainlink that's an outrageous hp increase, is there better throttle response down low are all the gains top end power?

Hello all,

I purchased my new Yamaha 1300 touring (candy red) 8 weeks ago, and now have 5400 miles. I've added lots of chrome and lights, and love the bike. I wish winter wasn't soon apon us in the north east . But do plan on ridding as long as I can.

Just found this site and thought I would jump in. My wife has a red 1300 V-Star and came from a Royal Star and a 650 V-Star before that. The 1300 is quicker than her Royal was and rides better as far as handling. Some of the mods I've done to the bike so far are. Tour deluxe handle bars for more pull back,Yamaha Speedstar pipes, Cobra FI200R , lot of chrome pieces. I also shaved the stock seat down at the neck so she could flat foot better. Then I had a guy redo the cover to try and match the gray color of the lower part of the Corbin bags. Last mod was to cut down the license mount and install it upside down to give it the lay down look.
Here is a pic and I hope yall like it.
By the way I ride a midnight Stratty

Exclamation Truth??

Is anyone in this forum actually a bike rider? I don't know why you all think your VSTAR is go great, I think it's the loudest/noisiest bike ever. I had a Yamaha Venture Royal (84) model that had 70k miles an didn't make this much noise.

Also, everyone keeps asking how fast this bike is. Well once you gauge the speedometer you will find that it's not accurate and the faster you go the more in-accurate it is (the speed appears higher than you are actually going and the faster you go, the value show grows expedentially, i.e, if your guage says your doing 90, you will most like barely be doing 80, at 80 your doing about 75. It's somewhat accurate upto 70 though.

Worst bike I've ever owned and the last Yamaha I will ever own. Kawasaki for me.

You didn't notice the noise when you test rode your bike before buying it?

Quite funny for a first post. It ranks right up there with "If you've never dropped a bike then you're not a biker", or "If it's not a harley then you're not riding."

A 1500 Kaw was my last bike. 7500 miles and the tranny went out. Seems like the quality people at Kawasaki left out a shim in the tranny and this allowed the first gear to pop out. Rounded dogs and slots on the gear.
$1024 was all it cost to fix and that was a deal. Needless to say when I purchased my 9th bike (all Yamaha's except 1) I went back to Yamaha.

Hey guys. First post here.

I have a new 2007 Raven V star 1300. I love this bike. I live north of Boston, so Im decidedly without long stretches of road, but despite not having had the opportunity to get her out for a couple of hundred miles at a shot, I love her.

I have about 300 miles on the bike now. And in the last few days Ive noticed the engine noise and the exhaust note getting a little deeper. The guys at my shop say this is because of the warmer weather and because the bike is wearing in. Any thoughts? I may be psyching myself up, but I feel like there may be a minor loss in power to accompany this new, beefier noise.

After going through everything I've been through with Yamaha by the way isn't really Yamaha, it's (Star Motorcycles) which build the bikes for Yamaha. I called Yamaha concerning why I was receiving so much info from Star Motor Cycles and they informed me that they are contracted by Yamaha to build these bikes.

As to my statement, I find it really strange that so many people seem to think this bike is the greatest thing since peanut butter! Anyone who has had any experience in owning and riding bikes, they wouldn't be so up on this thing. There are many on the road, you never see them ???? and once one has had time on this bike they will notice real quick how off the speedometer is, and the faster you go the greater true difference. I clocked my bike several times using different methods/vehicles and things start get off at around 65mph. When you riding through traffic at 90mph you will notice your note blazing past the cars and what I found is when doing 90 I was actually barely doing 80 and at 100 never reach 90??? You think the bike is fast but in reality, it's quick but top end isn't all that great.

Shwin? Is this your second bike? Get real, it's easy to see who the real riders are just by noticing what they focused on in my comment. "Is anyone in this forum actually a bike rider?" is what everyone seems to be focused on? I must have hit a nerve. However, if you ever had a Harley you wouldn't be in this forum! As to my brothers in arms "cudos!" I was with the SOPTF "Special Operations Task Force" and I agree! Either get behind us or stand in front of us! Obama should be the first in front of us!

Special Operations, Harley Davidson, Obama...and my personal favorite "Get real, it's easy to see who the real riders are just by noticing what they focused on in my comment"
If you're going to make a coherant argument keep on track. None of this made any sense.

By the way, i don't give a sh*t what you ride, and i don't agree that this is the best bike since peanut butter. But if you've got a point, make it...the rest of the "filler" doesn't add anything to your argument, this group, or the forum. So how about you keep the personal dialogue on the down low.

I am new on this site; I love my VStar 1300 and I am also trying to find out some information. I just removed the stock exhaust and in stalled Vance and Hines double stacked pipes and the saddle bag will not fit because the new pipes sit about an 1 1/2" higher than the old pipes, have you or anyone heard of this and if so is there a fix for it.

Can you post some pics? Sometimes different saddlebag supports change the position of the saddlebags and may be enough to help you out. Some people have also fabricated their own saddlebag supports to solve fitment issues.

Big_Ran,

I looked at the VH pipes and the 2 into 1 is the only model setup for the touring model. The stacked pipes are for the crusier check their site. I think if you can swap the pipes or loose the bags. Sorry man I know they look sweet but I'm limited like you are...

From VH site
"In 2001 we decided to make a 2-into-2 exhaust system that would perform like a 2-into-1, the result was our hidden crossover appropriately named the Power Chamber. Designed specifically for the non-bag model, Big Shots for the Yamaha V-Star 1300 is a 100% Blue Proof system to harness the full potential of this model. With 2 1/2" head pipe heat shields and oversized 3" muffler bodies, when you twist the throttle you'll wonder if it is even the same motorcycle. "

Jason,

I have about 2700 on mine now and I've noticed the same thing prior to my first service @600 (well it was 960 but who can pass up a nice Saturday).
Anyway prior to the service it seemed that the exhaust did change tone slightly and that the bike was a bit flat on the acceleration curve, but that changed after the service was done and the bike was back to what I consider better than new performance. I think now that it's on the high side of 2k it's smoothing out even more, although it lacks a tach crusing at 75 or so take a lot less throttle and the bike just sounds smoother.

Enjoy,
SS

My GPS supports this fact, along with a few comparisons to some HD's I ride with. The faster you go the more it over registers, which I consider a safety issue when you get down to it. Has anyone talked to their dealer?
