I'll bet many of you like me have some history of British bike addiction.... Most of mine was at an earlier age, but I came across this 1969 Triumph TR25W Trophy 250 single, and ended up in a full on restoration project! It's a bit more together now, than in these pics, but still lacking paint on tank and fenders. I did connect a fresh battery and rigged a fuel line, in order to kick it over. Having had everything apart, to the nut and bolt, I was anxious to hear it. I knew the fresh +0.40 piston and new valves were giving nearly 200psi on the compression gauge, and points, timing, and tappet clearances were good to go as static set..... When it barked to life on the third kick, I was mentally shot back in time to 1971, when I first rode my then new 250 Trail Blazer..... What a hoot! I've owned and ridden many Triumphs and BSA's, but have to say that their singles have a flavor like no other, crude as they are..... Reminds me of getting hooked on Harley's iron, it's a love/hate thing, for sure.... My one demo ride on the Rocket III last year had me wanting one real bad, but other bikes soon trumped that urge..... I still love the classics though..... |
