Default Acceleration

Hi,

Something I found out the other morning while on my way to work - two lanes that converge into one after a set of traffic lights. If I am in the left hand lane, and the driver of the car in the right hand lane is asleep, even though I only have 11hp, I can pull away and get in front of that car and keep it behind me!

Something else I learned - I have the same acceleration as a Land Rover Defender V8 TDi. I almost had a traffic light to traffic light race with one the other day, and I kept up with him, even went ahead of him at one point!

Regards
Dwayne Hicks

Its 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hey, psycho, we're not getting back together. Now get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.

Yep! I don't think he was going flat out after 2nd gear though, but on 1st, second and third gear I was getting ahead of him..

Dwayne are you racing again ?

Remember you must respect everyone of those 11 hp.

Use them for good not for evil.

I certainly hope you crushed his ego by telling him that your 11 hp trashed his 300.

Probably not a good thing to do to someone driving a two ton vehicle that has a higher top end than you do . He may have beat him light to light but 0-70 mph Dwayne would be dragging under the Rover.

I did for a bit, but two sets of lights later, he turned right off the main road. Probably taking his kids to school or something..

I do respect all vehicles on the road when passing or making space for people, as I am aware that should we have an accident, they are fully enclosed in their vehicle, whereas I am fully enclosed in not a lot of anything.. Except for the Force...

Dwayne

A friend of mine has a Yamaha TZR 125. He reckons my 125 will beat his 125 on pull away, but top end he would thrash me, as he has had it up to 160 km/h, whereas mine only does 110 km/h... Will have to try that out one day.

Default Not racing but a warning about drivers.

I was in a parking lot, whei I saw a woman get into her car ahead of me. I slowed down, to make sure she sees me. She back out a little and we made eye contact. She waited till I was behind her until she came speeding out. I accelerated and swerved. Her bumper actualy touched my foot peg, But I escaped. I will never know why she did that unless she has some vendeta against bikers. I always drive like they are all out to get me. Funny how being surrounded by steel makes some people crazy.
I wont even go into Minivans. There is too many tales to tell. Just keep your eyes out and know even when they see you and stare out you, they may still ignore you, like a figment of their emaginations.

Figment of their imagination is all to bloody true!

I have had 3 major accidents, which means that I am not able to work in any manual jobs anymore, I have a wrecked left ankle, a reconstructed right knee, that is now on the verge of being rejected even after 5 years of me having it done, and a left forearm that wont heal and I need it re-pinning for the second time in 3 months.

Its not stopped me however, I still have my bikes, and have no intention of stopping riding.

One thing to note though...

One accident that happened to me about erm... 1998 sometimes in about July it was, cant give you the exact date, but the 14th is close... Roughly about 6:46 - I was on my way to work anyway... Just rough guesses here you understand ( hehe ) they just happen to be stop-on.

Anyway, I was joining the expressway / freeway and it was heavy traffic.

Now, there was a fairly good gap between these two cars, of about 30 feet or so.
I moved between them, the car in front was a fair distance, the car behind was very close, but, I intended it to be, as I wanted to make the eye-contact, so he would back off..

He did.

Unfortunately, what had happened, is that another car, had undertaken me on the inside, and the gap to other car was not a good 20 or so feet, it was now closer to about 20 or so inches!!!!

He had come in, not realising the traffic was a hell of a lot slower than he assumed it was, and he braked, but I had nowhere to go but up!

I hit his car, and because of the angle I hit it, plus the fact that I had tried to swerve to miss him, I landed on a car in the oncoming lanes, which was not pleasant as the oncoming traffic was clear and VERY VERY fast, and I was bounced once again back into a van on my own side...

Needless to say, the oncoming car was thankfully written off ( 1 down, 50 billion to go ), but so was my back and chest, and I was left in traction for 2 years!

All of this was caused by a wakner ( How do you spell it? ) trying to push his way into traffic.

One lesson to learn, is that everyone is out to kill you

I have been cruising the neighborhood tring to get my bearings straight on my new bike (first bike, but not first to ride). And I will start off by mentioning that I still live in a highly college student concentrated area, and thought probably needless to say there are a ton of idiots. THe ditzy girls are the worst. One afternoon a girl was pulling out off a side street, looked at me, and I slowed down so much I almost fell over, I may have well had stopped, and she still puller out in front of me, while I was turning in front of her. Another time (going back to the pulling away from tail riding cars) this guy was on my butt. So I flashed my brakes a few times... nothing. Looked at him... nothing. So i took off and left him in the dust. He finally got the picture at the stop sign when I took my sweet time pulling away. I have been riding for a few weeks and have already gotten to the point that I am sure that they are all out to get me.

But the middle finger is so universal. But I'll behave. I have always been told when I was younger that all the scary bikers out there are usually some of the nicest and most helpful people you can meet. I wouldn't want to be responsible for ruining that reputation. I actually had a defensive driving instructor say that in class.
