Depends on what you're doing at the time.

That's why most new bikes have a feature that kills the engine if you're in gear with the stand down.
Actually, this feature has been around for at least 18 years on various bikes. Maybe longer.

I can't get my bike onto the centre stand. Is there some special technique I have to use to do this? As I have to have someone help me to do it...

Regards
Dwayne

Its 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hey, psycho, we're not getting back together. Now get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.

Stand on the lever while simultaneously pulling up on (or near) the seat and back with the bars. It'll work for any size bike.

Default Center stand. Sigh.

I wish my bike had a center stand. I also wish it had an emergency tank, but I don't know any sportbikes that do. I guess the extra 7lbs for the gallon of gas is bad on a sportbike.

I ended up disabling the kill switch on my gixxer. I was taking a pretty tight leftie, and as I was coming back up (straightening out, I should say) I readjusted my as..err, butt, and simultaneously accidentally hit the kickstand. Just enough to wiggle it, but it killed my engine. Which was NOT good in my lean mode.

Of course, I blame this on the kill switch, instead of my fat (foot, butt, head, you pick). *cough*

Thanks Uncle Bob. I didn't know about the kickstand switch until you mentioned it (I'm old school I guess)

Just how big is your butt ? Gotta be pretty hefty to be hitting your kickstand with it while on the bike !

Funny, funny.

Actually, I'm still not sure how I did it - I think my foot slipped, because I vaguely remember it hitting the ground, but not really sure if that was the cause, or the effect, of the engine dying. I'm reasonably certain it was the kickstand kill switch, however.

You shouldn't switch off your engine with the emergency-switch unless you have to. I have been told by many engineers that it is bad for the ignition to use the emergency-switch.

I don't see how since it cutting the electrical path (I guess). I don't understand how the ignition could be ill affected.
