Question Balance Issues when Stopping

Hi,
I am still green to bikes, in fact I only have only a few hours of riding. I am having some balance problems when stopping ... and I do not know what is the right thing to do.

When stopping i am used to use the foot brake (the rear brake), but sometimes i am afraid that once i stop the bike will go on the right hand side, and thus my right foot will not be prepared since it will be on the foot brake. In fact once my bike fell on its side!

In a sort of way, I managed to solve this problem by putting out the left foot before I stop, so that the bike will rest on the left hand side instead of the right hand side, but i am afraid that when i will have to brake suddenly I will not manage pull my leg out in time (my reflexes when riding are bit slow when compared to when I drive a car)

Furthermore, recently i had another problem... i was on a stop sign in a T-junction waiting to go out. While I was waiting I put the bike on first gear, and was holding the front brake, to avoid that the bike will move backwards. When the road was clear I decided to go out, but as soon as i put some throttle and release the clutch and I pulled both feet on the foot rest to start moving, a car came out of nowhere! To stop instantly, for some reason, I applied the front brake, but since the steering was slightly turned the bike dragged me to the side and the bike fell again! In such case what should I do? Is it a good option to put only the left foot on the ground while the right is on the brake?
