Default Indiana Driver's Test

My wife took her driver's test yesterday. She's been on a learner's permit for the past year. She was all nervous about it until we saw how easy it was. 1 left turn, 1 stop with your front wheel inside a 3x5-foot rectangle, an offset weave, a u-turn, a quick stop and a swerve-stop. All at low speeds in a parking lot. She passed easliy.

I watched about 20 people take the test, and many either missed the cones on the weave, or put a foot down at some point during the weave. Almost everyone that missed cones had their heads down looking at the closest cone, instead of keeping their heads up. The quick stops were pretty funny to watch. Lots of differences in how people stop. One rider apparently used his front brake only on the swerve-stop, and his bike almost fell completely over. It seems you can screw up on two of the maneuvers, and still pass the test. Only one person failed while I was watching. He couldn't do the weave at all, didn't make the u-turn inside 24 feet, and even had trouble with the quick-stops. It just seemed like he was on a bike that was way too physically big for his skill level.

That's frightening that so many had trouble with such a simple test. None of them would be able to get an endorsement where I live ...

I did on the Harley, if they knew how to ride as a passenger, but nobody wants to ride on the ZZR, lol.

Should try taking the test here in the UK, you have to do a set of manovers and pass (It`s called a CBT) before they even let you out on the road to learn how to ride, then theres the test to get your full licence then the fun begins when you have passed if you get 6 penalty points ( I think within the first 2 years) you loose your licence for 1 year and have to retake your test.

They've introduced something similar on the mainland - in the first 2 years after getting your driver's license, it's probationary. If you are caught driving under the influence of ANY alcohol or drugs, or you cause an accident (anything more serious than a fender-bender), your license is revoked and you have to start the whole process again after 3 months. And since the licensing process can set you back about $3000, it's not easy to do it again on a student's income.

Interesting. I don't think the PA test was difficult, but it lasted four days, 2 classroom days two riding days.

Was that the MSF Basic Rider Course? In Michigan, you can take the MSF class which is the classroom days and riding instruction and test, or you can take a simple road test similar to what Deno described. You can do one or the other, unless you are under 18 in which case you have to do the MSF course.
