| I'm heading over the Newburgh bridge into Beacon when the bike starts to sputter and loose power. I smoothly reach down, flip the lever to reserve and continue on my way to the gas station. What was cool was that its the first time ran out of gas, and I have never practiced reaching for the lever while riding. I pulled it off like I knew what I was doing Later on I pull on to Rt9. Its a posted 35 I scan my mirrors and a car is bearing down on me like a rocket, I trow open the throttle and pull ahead as he keeps coming for me, putting just enough distance on us so he has room to slow down about 2 ft behind my ass. The rest of the way trough town he stayed about 50yds behind me till I pulled off. Close call but tonight everything just clicked right. |

| I had this happen while practicing on my new bike, and in a slow turn at that. Also learned that just because the tank looks full when topping off does not mean it is full. I was 20 mils off on my trip meter before I ran out of gas in my main. I got to the station and filled up and then had to top off several times before it was actually full.

If it then sits in the hot sun (or even going down the road) and the fuel gets hot and expands, a little bit can come out the vent in the cap. Think about where the wind will blow those drops of gas.......what is directly behind the tank when you are riding. It's not a pleasant thought!
