Default Reaction Time

Tonight I had a reminder about reaction times ... luckily without anyone (or anything) being hurt.

I was driving my German Beercan (VW Golf) along a country road at about 50 mph, when I saw something in my headlights hop on the side of the road - a rabbit was on the street hopping out of the way. Nothing unusual, until I realised that I was well past the rabbit before my foot even got near the brake pedal!

Again, I didn't hit the rabbit, since it hopped out of the way ... but it was a vivid reminder not to ride beyond my sight distance (in other words, my headlights) ...

Many people do, which explains the high volume of "road kill" that I've been seeing lately ...
