Default dont run over ******* tiedown buckles

so tired of this garbage. SECOND oil leak since ive had the bike.

crusing along @ 50mph, change lanes, look over and theres a tie down turnbuckle like 4 feet in front off my front tire. i hit it and it makes this CLANK into the underside of my bike.

next light i stop at, bike smokes like crazy. it loses probabaly half a cup of oil at each light, for about a 30 min ride home. get home, all the oil is gone.

so tired of this. give me a reason to not go out to the parking lot and kick the damn thing over. im gonna jb weld it saturday, or possibly take it to a shop, but im so tired of the maintenanace. beginning to wish i got that new ninja, this 1200 bandit is becoming a pain. only time i rode it this week. f this.

I predict that you will get a chance to have a different bike.

If this ride that ended with all the oil gone didn't already kill it, a "fix" of the crankcase or pan with JB Weld will certainly do the trick. It just might take a little while.

Checked oil in bike, still has 3/4ths left. Taking it into the shop tomorrow.

If theres a hole in the oil pan, im pretty sure I can order a new one at least.

How can JB weld ruin an engine? People repair engine blocks with it....

Sure and people "fix" their exhaust systems with bailing wire too.
It's not a question of IF it will fail but just when.

Oil pan???

I'm prety sure your B-12 is like every other inline 4 out there, and there's no oil pan, just the cases that hold the tranny, and crank ends of the rod's.

If you have a hole in your cases, you are in for a big repair bill to fix/replace them.

The guy at the shop said it was a small deal, hes worked on bandits before. However if this accident totals the bike, Ill just part it out and ride the cage for a few more years.

Sad, bike only has 12k original miles on it. Ill keep the updates going.

Instead of being mad at the bike, you might consider being mad at yourself for not paying attention to road debris until it's too late to do anything about it.

Sheesh. Tough crowd.

Yes, it has an oil pan. Looks like you could do it yourself for around a hundred and a half.

fiche

Sorry about your mishap. Keep your chin up, it could happens to anybody.

Yeah, changing lanes, and it didnt help the tie down was the same grey that matched the road. And there was an 18 wheeler about 20 feet ahead, so i couldnt look THAT FAR ahead of the road.

Im chilling out now, because its not the bikes fault, it was mine. But also, hempstead highway is a dump.potholes abound and blown tires everywhere, Ill take i-10 from now on. Rarely if ever is there debris on i-10.

damn, bunch of harda$$es in here...

but, fyi, I fixed a small holes in a cast aluminum oil pan on a car I had years ago with JB weld, or similar epoxy, and it was still solid as a rock 5 years later when I sold it. Epoxy is fine, on the right metals, like porous aluminum, and if the surfaces is totally clean (use rubbing alcohol to remove all oil).

good luck. I think the Bandit is a good all purpose bike. Been looking at one myself.

A beer for ya Anville.. I know the frustration of stupid crap in the road. I nearly ran over a damn 4 foot alluminum step ladder last week in my truck. I could not change lanes cause of other cars so I had to straddle it in the truck and hope it doesn't tear anything up.. LUCKILY and I use that word sparingly I managed to miss it but there are so many times when I do actually hit the crap in the road.. On a bike its much more scarrier cuz it could end you up taking a spill on the pavement.. Don't beat yourself up bro.. honest mystake we all could make at any time.

A buddy of mine back in Texas was following behind an 18-wheeler once. The starter on the 18-wheeler decided it didn't want to hang around anymore and just fell off onto the road. So my buddy suddenly sees in front of him this bouncing, not so nice-looking starter that is about to smack him. Somehow, and I don't know, he managed some type of Matrix-like move and just missed the starter. Very lucky.

for that very reason Jim is why I don't ride close to big rigs.. They blow tires to often to easily.. and imagine getting nailed in the head by one of those things.. not pretty...

I have a buddy that was driving a work truck on I240 when an axle fell off of a flat-bed towtruck in front of him. I wasn't there, but he said it bounced end-over-end a couple of times before puncturing the radiator of the truck. He's lucky, he could have been killed.

Got the bike back (AMAZINGLY my braking is INCREDIBLE, front brake almost threw me off on the way home, new tires are awesome) and Im so relived everything is fixed.

Lesson learned, dont follow close to 18 wheelers, and beware for random crud on the road.

Im off, its a gorgeous texas day. Thanks all for the support.

Good for you, bud. I cleared an extension ladder in my wife's Sebring years ago, and I know it was only by millimeters. I now have a constant worry of stuff showing up behind other traffic like that. Keeps me backed off.
