Default What can happen if you get stupid on a motorcycle

I hope I don't offend anyone with this.

My son recently took the MSF course, got his motorcycle license and a new Ninja 250R. He seems like he has his head screwed on tight but nonetheless, I made him watch the the images and videos on the web site shown below. While we both agree that motorcycling is about as fun as it gets, I love him dearly and want to make damn sure he knows what can happen if he gets stupid on a motorcycle. If someone you love is also a newbie, or is getting a little too close to the edge, you might want to pin their ears in front of this site also.

Sorry if anyone is offended by this but i think it's important.

WARNING: Very graphic, bloody images and videos.

I've seen that site before (couldn't go through the whole thing though). I think Smurf posted it before. I must say, it does serve as a reminder whenever I feel I'm stretching the bike a bit too much.

I wonder though how they got all those pics????

Yeah that site has poped up a few times around here, I would have also shown you son. It's a shame there's a very serious side to all this fun.

Yeah I've gone to that site before. Though I was able to look at the images, some of them can be pretty messed up. It's not a bad thing to let people see what can happen if they don't drive as though they are invisible and not to be a squid.

This one in particular looks like it would be ugly a second later.

Wouldn't even take the full second to get ugly.

What causes the front end to fold like that?

If I had to guess I'd say he slipped on the double yellow that he crossed. At a hard angle like that going over paint = bad.

Is it possibe that he was going too slow for that kind of a lean and with a passenger? You can almost see the gravel on the ground which means he wasn't really going that fast. And maybe his ego made him force the bike to lean a wee bit too much and the front tucked in.

I dunno, but that is a scary sight for sure.

Look at the background though, it's definitely moving at a decent speed. I think it was just taken from a good camera.

My original theory stands.

Yes, you're right. And the tires are right on paint.

I try to avoid paint as much as possible and if I have to be on paint, I try not to accelerate or brake. I just let it past.

Paint kills especially in rain!!

Oh yeah in the rain I ride like a grandma on turns Even going straight on pain you can sometimes feel wiggles... makes me nervous when I see huge, new crosswalks up ahead while it's raining.

Unfortunately you don't always have to be the one being stupid for it to happen, too many times other drivers don't pay enough attention.

He could have been accelerating too hard and unloaded the front wheel which, when compounded with the low friction coefficient of the painted lines, causes a loss of traction and a slide-out.

Paint is bad but on my way to work there is this manhole cover that is so difficult to avoid, talk about really bad placement. I have had several small slides on it. It's kinda like a hypnotic idiot magnet calling to me. Come Vinnie, ride over me, come Vinnie, ride over me. And I do it everytime. Someday I will overcome the evil eye of that manhole cover. I will, I swear it!!

Ahaha, Vinnie, it sounds like you're a victim of target fixation!!

That happens with me too. I have these places I want to avoid riding on, so I get fixed on looking at it and sure enough my bikes goes right on it. Damn!!

The annoying this is...I know about target fixation and it still happens!!

Hear, hear! I've suffered from target fixation myself at times

One time I saw this really cute girl crossing the street.... well, you know where this story goes....

I took her home and played Big Chief.
