Default hunt for ideas - muffler to saddlebag spacer

ok, the situation is this: my bike has a side-exhaust, and the right side saddle bag's bottom comes very close to the muffler, and sometimes touches it and rests on it a bit. so far, it's melted off a bit of the outer plastic 'skin' on the bottom of the saddle bag.

who's got brilliant and low-cost ideas on how to separate and insulate the muffler from the saddlebag? preferably nothing adhesive since i don't wanna nasty up the muffler (stock titanium piece) and getting stuff to stick to the saddle bag will be a challenge (it's material, so it'll flex and shift and whatnot)

here's what the bike looks like (since it's no longer part of my sig)
