Default Today I learned another reason to wear gloves.

So I have been undecided on a new pair of gloves and putting off the purchase. On my way to work this morning in moderate traffic I feel something on my right index finger while approaching a red light. Since I'm in decelleration mode I just roll my finger up to see a bee. By the time I can safely lift my hand it's already stung me. The person behind me probably had a laugh watching me try to shake the little thing off.

Not like it was big deal but guess what I bought after work tonight?

rode tens of thousands of miles without gloves and never got stung by a bee on the hand -- did have one sting me on the temple under the frame on a pair of glasses

of course -- after I got older -- I now wear gloves all the time -- never can be too safe

I always wear gloves too.
I have summer (mesh-like ones) gloves and regular leather gloves, winter gloves when it gets REALLY COLD (Goretex material, complete with a tiny rubber wiper thingy on my left hand glove so I can wipe off the rain from my visor in case of rain), and racing leather gloves.

Seems like a lot but they all have different purposes.

I also have 3 pairs of gloves - 1 "winter" pair (GoreTex lining, nice and thick, with a long shaft that covers half of my forearm), 1 "spring" pair (GoreTex, but shorter shaft), and 1 "summer" pair (thin Kangaroo leather).

I've had insects and stones bounce off my fingers and knuckles. I won't ride more than a KM without gloves anymore.

I think gloves are a must. When I picked up my M50, I picked up a nice pair of black Joe Rocket gloves that breath very well, but have padding it the right places. I was on the highway earlier this summer doing about 100km/h and some huge bug nailed me in the left hand. I barely felt it thanks to my gloves, but this sucker exploded and streamed bug crap all over the place, my hand was covered and so was the left grip. Without gloves it probably would have hurt and would have made me barf.

To me gloves are part of the gear and I believe in ATGATT (see my sig)!

i have 2 pairs... i have a pair of joe rocket air-something... keeps my hands cool on the hottest days.
i have a backup pair.. generic cruiser gloves i bought for the safety course, comfy and padded where it should.

i'll be buying another pair soon... once it hits about 10c outside at night it's downright cold!! need some armoured winter gloves (i want something like inspiron has!)

i don't believe in fingerless gloves, as i tend to not pick my nose when on the bike

I own a few pairs of gauntlets. Mostly so when people annoy me at work I have something convenient with which to slap 'em.

I own several pairs of gloves and continue to buy them. It's nice having an alternate pair or four to rotate.

Been hit with many rocks and debris...I never ride without them.

I prefer wiping my own bum as opposed to having someone else do it. That's just me. Gloves all the time while riding.

Sure.. Blame it on the allergies

I've worn gloves for years off and on depending on the weather. I went down almost 2 years ago and luckily had on gloves, but not motorcycle gloves. One palm slid up and I was picking out gravel for about a week. Also found out why motorcycle jackets have narrow forearms as the leather I had on slid up my arm and my wrist and forearm had the gravely thing as well. I've got real gear now and I wear it.

In short, gear that's made for the purpose is always best, but anything is better than nothing.

Yesterday morning going to work it was in the lower 50's. I could hardly move my hands to clutch and brake. Bought a pair right after work and went for a long ride last night. What a difference! Just need to get used to them. A question though, I did not want to buy a think pair thinking it would be difficult to clutch and brake. Do you guys have trouble with the thicker gloves?
