Exhaust warranty & what not to do One week ago Thursday I finally received my new exhaust. I was so excited to have that new sound. I installed the pipes and the fit was terrible, not even close!! The cans were to overlap the headers but the fit was opposite, the top header overlapped the cans and there was a huge gap on the bottom header. OK, so I will have to return the cans and have it reworked. I still wanted to hear the new exhaust so I started it up and rode for a bit. I called the retailer immediately and was told to contact the manufacturer. Here is the deal in this situation. I am now dealing with a manufacturer, a distributer (they warranty the product for the manufacturer} and a retailer. According to the manufacture catalogue they warranty their product for 90 days “against defects in material or workmanship.” I bought these pipes from an internet retailer. When I called the retailer I was asked if I ran the bike with the pipes on. Well, of course I did, I wanted to hear the new sound. Now the distributer warranty is void because I ran the bike. If I had bought they from the manufacturer, the warranty would be void because I ran the bike. What a mess!! How is a person to know if there is another defect unless I ran the bike? Quite a scam in my opinion. I sent numerous pics to the retailer and manufacturer and after many calls they will now take the pipes back, rework them and send them back. Turnaround, about 3 weeks. So the moral of this story is, if you buy new pipes and have an issue DON'T run the bike!! Needless to say I am a little sad as now the whine of my tranny is louder than my stock pipes but I guess it is about riding not the sound.
