Default Whoa...found the rev limiter today....

Too many things happening at once....too much throttle I guess... Suddenly in the middle of everyting I lost power for a second... That was scary!!! Guess it just takes that split for something to happen... No problems...but lesson learned.. PAY ATTENTION!!!

Heh...

I've never red-lined my bike that hard in those gears... I figure since my red-line starts at 10k+, that' s a good enough place to shift into the next power-band.

thats my thought normally.... but in this case the way the revs climb in that range and in that gear, it just took a mili second to over rev.....

I know....usually shift before redline... It was not a good place to be...in the middle of changing lanes and suddenly loosing power for a sec...

Depends on how you have the motor set up. I built a 750 motor that would pull THROUGH the redline. Of course, the upgraded parts could handle the extra stress of the higher revs. I also had higher lift cams that were degreed in, heavier valve springs, hard welded rocker arms, overbore kit yadda yadda yadda.

Actually, that is why it is important to get a dyno chart. Then you can see where your power peaks. Ideally under hard riding conditions (i.e. racing), you want to over rev slightly. When you upshift, your RPMs drop back into the middle of the powerband when you are hard on the throttle so that you are not wasting time climbing back into the powerband.

yaeh but if you build the motor with parts that will allow the motor to rev higher and produce more high end power doesnt that actually increase the redline on the motor so in theory by the time you are up to your hp max you would be at red line or a little before..........makes you wonder, hmm.....

I used to redline my Nighthawk (8500 rpm) all the time, especially after riding someone else's sportbike. No big deal.
