Alot of my friends (In Daytona Beach, Fla) DO NOT have insurance on their bikes...are there any "lessons learned" experiences here I can tell them about??? What should I tell them?

well the biggest thing is that if you ask anyone, everyone goes down on there bike once. Whether it is dropped in the driveway or while riding. And if they go down on the street. They will have medical bills will kill them if the accident doesn't. Plus there will enjoy paying bills on a bike that they may not have anymore.

Hopefully they have liability coverage, otherwise, it's illegal unless the laws in Canada and US are different.

I was quoted $200/mo. on my insurance. That's pretty steep and it's a thousand $ deduct, but I still want to be legal...I'd rather have no coverage on my bike than just not have insurance. I think you can get jailtime without insurance if anything were to happen.

Oh yeah, I'm a Riddle student to answer that one question.

Go with Progressive. Good rates and they include roadside assistance. I learned the hard way there is a parking light detent on the ignition switch that is just past the one for locking the front forks. left the parking light on all day. Called their roadside assistance number, the guy was there in about 45 min. Jumped me and I was on my way. No extra charges.

I wouldn't ride without insurance but apparently in Washington State it isn't illegal. From the DOL web site:

Operators of vehicles registered as antique vehicles, collector vehicles older than 30 years, state or publicly owned vehicles, motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, mopeds, or vehicles registered with the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission as common or contract carriers are exempt from mandatory insurance requirements.
