Default I've learned to appreciate nice evening rides

Last night I decided to go for a late night ride. Occasionally I like to ride out about 20 miles outside of town and just walk around on the side of the road, enjoying the peace and quite. I grew up living out in the country, so the nice rides out there, especially at night, remind me of all that. So last night I get about 20 miles north of Lubbock, pull over and shut off the bike. The moon is bright, the air is crisp and clean, fabulous night for a ride of its kind. The only thing that could make it better, was if we had a few curved roads, or maybe some real twisties. It was just nice to take a few minutes to appreciate the open country out here (since we have SOOOOO much of it).

Riding out to buffalo lake-ish/ransom canyon is always a good time, just be prepared to destroy a few bugs along the way every night.

no joke! I went out south of New Home a few nights ago after the rain stopped. I guess it was Sunday night. Nothing like a moonlight ride. I have not been out to Buffalo/Ransom at night yet on the bike. It is getting close to campfire/ bonfire season out there though.

There are some decent twisties (short though), through the canyons. Inside ransom the roads are neat, but conditions aren't good. Just take it very slow and you'll be fine in there. Its neat if its warm enough after thanksgiving to ride out and see all of the Christmas lights.

Up here in the North East...it just doesn't pay to ride too much at night.

There are too many tree-lined roads, chock full of twisties....where big freaking Deer tend to take naps in the Apex of the turn. Only to be scared awake by your bike...and the darned things always seem to run right out into the middle of the road...and then stop to look you over.

I hope no one hits one this year...they appear to be bigger than last year...must have been a ton of food available this summer.

Night rides in Kansas conjures up several images for me. I typically ride the farm roads. On a good night, these rides can be quite peaceful, very serene. On the other hand, cemetaries line my route. In many occasions, I made it a point to stop the bike and have a smoke when I encounter a cemetary. If it weren't for the fact that I'm bikeless right now, these nights would have been interesting as Halloween approaches and the nights get cooler.

I now look forward to riding the evenings in Hawai'i, with its warm tropical nights and the smell of the ocean not so far away...
