Default Helmet Feeling Loose.......

I've had my helmet for 3 years now. It is an extra small. But lately it feels like it has been wobbling around. I'm pretty sure my head hasn't shrunk........is the padding inside flattening? And if it is can I get it replaced, or should I buy a new helmet?

Are you wearing your hair shorter?

It's probably the padding getting old. It's probably more efficient to buy a new helmet than to try to get the old one re-padded. Plus, you'd then have a spare.

+1. Hairstyles can make a big difference, and the rule of thumb is replace them every five years anyway.

Yeah, I agree...hairstyle can make a big difference. However, the padding will flatten out after a while too.

I'd retire it & get another one...or replace padding if it's never been dropped or had an impact.

Or, if you're on a tight budget...duck tape!

If it's never been dropped, then it's probably just the padding crushing down or the hairstyle. If budget is tight, a skullcap or dorag could be added as a temporary alternative, but I'd start saving for a new one.

Ive been told that because of the sweat and general wear, you should replace your helmet every 3 to 5 years anyway.

Anybody else heard that ??

I agree with smurf...I think the idea is that over time the helmet just sort of wears away a bit, it's a little more brittle and what not.

It's also not as cool as it once was...that's the best reason.!!!

My hair hasn't really changed all that much. I think I will buy a new helmet next season....finish with this one this season then keep it as a spare.

Depending on the brand, the padding can be replaceable.
My AFX has replaceable padding.
In some you have a choice of padding sizes thereby being able to fit the helmet better.

I lent a buddy my old ski boots once. He hadn't even got half way down the first run and they literaly fell apart on him. Luckily he wasn't hurt and it was quite comical in its own way ! But after seeing that it has always made me think that a crash helmet should not be used for too many years. I'd recommend buying a new one in your situation.

Try removing your padding and washing it in the machine. Mine tends to tighten up the fit after a washing.

Suprisignly i find that lot of people get that mixed up, i guess people that have never seen a helmet before, but if you have your own motorcycle, or your own scooter you should get a clue
