So there I am, enjoying a nice sunny afternoon ride with the wife. She's riding point, me tailgunner and out of nowhere (actually out of the woods) comes a deer from the right. No problem, she is a good 100 yards up the road, she will just dart back into the woods and leave us alone. The deer takes a look at us and does a quick 180 and high tails it back into the woods, the wife lets off the brake, slowly accelerates and goes a little left just in case. Great job, no problem, she clears the area and throws a thumbs up for me. Now I know a little about deer habits from my hunting days so I cautiously start to speed up (yep, here it comes) when suddenly from the LEFT a small fawn decides to jump out and follow Mom. All I can say is I'm glad I opened up the distance between the wife and myself. Bambi ran right between us and I missed her by about 10 feet going 40 MPH. Just a reminder that even in the summer everyone needs to be cautious. |
