Default The first time you scrape your pegs can be scary!

The weather was great today, so I took the bike to work instead of the 'vertible. I have a small side business, so after work I went to my warehouse to pick up some merchandise. I was turning left into the office park my warehouse is in, when a taxi was turning right coming out of the driveway. He decided to turn left instead, and apparently did not see me. He cut in front of me, just as I was coming into my turn. I pushed harder into the turn and rolled on the throttle to avoid being hit, and scraped my left peg.

As the title of this thread stated, this was my first time scraping a peg. It was scary, but I held it together, and completed my turn without hitting the taxi or dropping the bike. I was really proud of myself for not falling, or losing it when my peg hit the ground!

I scraped mine for the first time a week or so ago
I was goin through a set of 90° turns left then right about 25mph
when that peg hit I stood the bike up in what seemed like 5 or 6 feet lol
then had to lean it over again to stay in my lane
I wasnt expecting to do that at all and it starled me lol

I got myself in trouble iin a canyon in Colorado two days ago. I told myself I'd stay in my lane or slide out trying. Let's just say a Bandit with a Hayabusa rear suspension can lean rediculously far. I felt like I could've looked to my right and touched my nose on the pavement.

So, if I ever do scrape this bike, I'll probably scrape more than just a peg.

A long, long time ago, I was on my '82 CB650 Nighthawk approaching an intersection that I planned to turn right at. The light my way was green, so I slowed and came on around. As I crossed the slippery crown of the road in my new direction, both tires slipped and the bike went down on it's side almost to the throttle grip.... My right hand instinctively came off the grip and slapped the road palm down.... That little bit of a hand push stood the bike right back up in a split second, and I went on my way, trying to unclench the seat!

Nowhere on the bike was there a mark, even the peg or frame. I had no idea that bike could be so far down and the first thing to touch was going to be the handlebar grip! My hand stung like crazy for awhile though...

No gloves, and luckily not much road rash. Just the sting from that hard open palm slap against the blacktop hurt for a few days...

I did quickly buy new tires, even though the stockers had only a few thousand on them... Never wanted to do that again!

Wow! amazing that the centrifugal force in the engine helped to stand you back up!
I've a lowered Volusia (2") and only scrape about every couple thousand miles. not much, just enough to know I'm on a bike!
It's a great feeling when you first do it and your brain registers what it is and you keep doing everything right. It's an accomplishment that lets you know that you can and do control your bike!

you go into a nice, deep turn. Feels just right. You're leaning...

It was a scary feeling! You are in the turn, then you feel the peg catch on the pavement. Yes, CATCH on the pavement. That is the scary part. The pegs don't roll, and they don't move smoothly over the road. You grip the handlebars a bit tighter, and hold on coming out of the turn. The hardest part for me was maintaining my balance.

They do if you grind them down a bit. Once you've put a nice flat spot on the acorn nuts, they just make noise, less of the catching and throwing you off balance. Good times. Ride safe! and great composure.

I scraped pegs quite a bit on the 250, but I never have on the Gixxer. I have scraped the toes of my boots a few times though!

The first time I scraped, it wasn't the peg grind that startled me, it was the heel of my boot hitting the road that got my attention. Now whenever I'm in a hard lean, I anticipate that scrape.

I've managed to scrap both my rides (01 Honda Shadow 600 and an 01 Yamaha FZ-1). The shadow has one of the lowest production seat heights (at the time i bought) and hit that one during a u-turn. Definitely freaked me a bit and stood it straight up while my heart slowed. Then on the yamaha, took and aggressive turn with a passenger so i was riding a bit lower than usual and only touch for a second (without the heart attack this time). While riding the other day with my father (him riding his new HD Heritage Softail) i was about 20 yards ahead of him on a nice corner. I leaned it nicely and was through the turn when a heard a god aweful scrap. I flicked my head around so fast thinking he was on the ground but just peg scraping. Not ten minutes later, he hits the other side. I ribbed him a little for damaging the new ride but cant even tell. EVeryone is ok and thats always whats important.
