Default If the front wheel isn't on the ground...

it's hard to stear.

Today I was at an intersection trying to get on to rte 30 bypass. It was a difficult area to get on to, so when I saw an oppertunity, I pulled out and accelerated hard. That was a mistake. The front end came up and although I was still leaning, it def made it difficult to keep turning to get into the lane. Once the wheel touched down, it jerked the bars hard. I know the feeling, so it wasn't totally unexpected, but it certainly added a twist to trying to get the bike straight.

I feel I may be getting a little squidish and over confident. I need to take a look at my riding and settle down a bit. Sure, I can pop a wheelie and look cool, but I think wheelies are a squid thing to do unless not intentionally done. But today, although it was unintentional, it was not a safe area to be doing it and should have waited a bit longer for a better opening or found an alternative intersection. Had I thought about it for a moment, I could have rode through an alley and had come out to rte 30 at a light.

Somewhere there's a good thread about the stage of rideing you go though.... can't seem to find it right now (really tired). But over confident was one of the stages. But hey if you're aware of it you may already be coming out of that stage. At least you made it back safely!

Wheelies are not a big deal to me.

Take your bike and go into a turn , when you get half way through the turn, as the bike is in the hardest part of the lean, hit the throttle and bring up the front wheel and let us know how it goes.

Ohhhhh, LOL. Yeah. Since I put on this muffler and did not make any EFI adjustments, like an ECM, it's not as dramatic. It lifts about 2-3 inches off at the moment. When the EFI is configured correctly, the bike will put you on your *** if you're not careful. Even the XB9 will wheelie.

It's also on our front page blog in a longer, more drawn out form. And in my sig.

I've had it happen, too. When concentrating so hard on traffic it can be a surprise!

Not a wheelie, but same subject. I'm more than just a little concerned with these M109 guys saying they twist the throttle in the lower gears and the rear end breaks loose......(I read one post where a guy said he started fishtailing at 45 mph.)

Put that guy in Shea's situation, or in a situation where he needs to get on the gas to avoid a situation............

I don't know, maybe it's me. But that back tire spinning with no traction, and all the crap that is on a street surface like settling ruts, crowns, edge traps, painted lines, oil, or just plain slick surface.....That rear gets in to a fishtail, or just swings right out from under you...

This has to happen to you once to let you know that it actually CAN happen.

I accidentally did this on my first bike, but because I accidentally downshifted in a turn. Bear in mind that it was an '82 GS450L. I still can't believe it happened.

I brought up my front wheel last night, but it involved using a bike lift. That seems to be the easiest way on a C50.

if a guy on a valkyrie can do a wheelie, anyone can.

whether you SHOULD or not is the real question.
