Default Guard rail..almost

So there we are, the wife and I, going for a short ride on a warm sunny day that almost turned into a terrible day. The wife got a Honda Shadow Aero for her birthday and has been practicing in parking lots, back roads and the like and has been doing great (scheduled for the MSF in 2 weeks).

We decided to go for for a short ride with my teenage son riding with me for a picnic and the only way to get to the park was via a semi curvy road (nothing to serious) and I explained to my wife to take it slow and do not try anything crazy. On the way to the park she did great, nice and slow, took the cornering great and she felt good about herself.

Now for the mistake. While we were having our lunch, my boy and I sort of made fun of the wife for going so slow (not on the truns but the straight sections). Well you can see where this is going. So on the way back she decides to kick it up a notch and on the last curve, as she is almost out of the turn, she decides to look at the guard rail and guess where she headed.

Now here I am with my boy on the back, the wife in front of me doing 30MPH and heading off the road into a guard rail. I managed to curse a few times, felt my boy grab a hold of me and said the quickest prayer a man can say. All I can say is.... I love that woman. With about 3-4 inches of road left she decided it was not her time to go and pressed hard left, leaned like you would not believe and rolled out of the near certain death that was waiting for her.

About 200 yards later we pulled over, gave eachother a hug, said I love you and took a look at the bike. Her right rear saddle bag had a long scrape down the side (yes from the guard rail) and that was it. We made it home 10 minutes later and I asked her if she was ok. Her answer...Hell yeah, let's go for another ride. Guess I'll keep her for awhile.

Practice, research and a clear mind always is a good thing. Side note. My buddy is a MSF instructor and has been teaching her in his off time. She could not get into a class until late April.
