Question AAA does not cover motorcycles

Hi folks,

I asked AAA if they cover motorcycles for the roadside assistance, in case you need then like , Gas or Towing etc. Their answer was NO.
wonder how everyone is is handling it..?

I started looking into other similar service providers who will cover both cars and motorcycles. Any Ideas..?

Doesn't surprise me. In Ottawa a local business has started to offer roadside service for bikers.

Myself, I just try not to run out of gas.

The battery scares me the most as I have an older bike and an old battery.
Some times it nags. hence I need something like AAA service for Motorcycles.

Get a new battery, they are not that expensive.

For my motorcycle, I use the roadside assistance plan from my insurance company (Bike-line) which costs $16 / year.

The AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) offrers a service called Mo-Tow, and they will cover your cars as well as your bikes. http://www.ama-cycle.org/roadride/motow.asp
Mo-Tow is for AMA members

AAA will cover towing on a bike if you have the RV rider. It costs a little extra and I can't speak for their service since they contact local towing companies to do the actual work for them.

I found this all out last fall when I had a flat one evening. I called AAA and discovered, much to my frustration, that not only did my regular auto plan not cover the bike but they wouldn't even add the rider on the spot. It took 30 days for it to go into effect and I've not had a flat since. Go figure...

The TCS (Touring Club Switzerland) covers bikes and cars.

I have AAA and MoTow from the AMA. I will drop AAA at the end of the contract. It is just expensive for nothing. They cover my bikes and autos but it cost so much more for about the same services as MoTow. In fact i think MoTow even offers road trip and map services. AAA with the bikes included cost $136.00, MoTow is 60.00 for same services. AAA advertises with they premium service to tow you 100+ miles. MoTow advertises 35 miles. Please. As far as I know, in the US, one can find an exit/community along the highways at most every 20 miles. I am sure they is the exceptions but how frequently will you adventure in uncharted territories like that. So 35 miles seems OK in my book.
I used MoTow to tow a friends Eddie B. Ford SUV. They were very nice on the phone and prompt to arrive. No questions asked. I showed my card and pointed to the vehicle as well as my friend and told him that my friend would ride with him and I was going to follow. Fine!

AAA DOES cover bikes.

This is from page 10 of the member handbook and I called them to verify that the service is still in effect.

"For AAA Plus/RV members only, the Club extends all service to: Motorhomes, travel trailers for the purpose of camping with sleeping accommodations only, pickup trucks with bed-mounted campers, motorcycles, and 5th wheel travel trailers. Dual-wheel unloaded pickup trucks are provided all services and towing is at the discretion of the contractor."

You bet!

AAA covers MC too but it is their prices Vs MoTow and services at time. I just got another offer from them for 59.00 but it only covers 3 miles then the rest is up to me. If I want to add MC goes up to 128.00. Just about what I paid the last time. Again, as I said above, rarely one will find oneself in such a remote situation as not to find some community within 35 miles. I find MoTow suficient and they seem more pleasant to deal with than some of the AAA tow people I have encountered in the past when friends a/o family have needed them.
Good luck on whichever choice you make.

BTW, when you get MoTow and the AMA membership you, most likely, will qualify for a discount on your insurance. Perhaps will be worth checking into that. I did, and so did my friends after I got them into this.

Amen to you!!!

LOL I agree, breakdown is rare to none but buddy, flat tires. 'U know what i mean!? Besides, you have an awesome looking machine there. I thing that even the nails and debris on the roads will clear space for it.

Ride Safe & Enjoy!

I have AAA auto coverage, and when I broke down on my bike a few weeks ago, I just assumed that my bike would be covered! Wrong! BUT, when calling, I was told that I could add the motorcycle coverage for $30/yr, and I could even do it right then over the phone, and it would be effective immediately. They offer all the same benefits the auto coverage gives, except if you get a flat, they will tow you to get it fixed, rather than change it for you. Not a bad deal...

Here in Kansas, going from AAA basic to AAA Plus/RV costs $50.00 extra per year (on top of $54.00 basic) plus any others on the plan (wife) must also be on Plus/RV (for another $50.00) even though she doesn't ride a cycle or drive an RV. I dropped AAA and got AMA/MoTOW. MoTOW covers spouse as part of the package price.

so it's like $40 / year to join the AMA ... and another $60 / year for the Mo-tow service.... (just making usre I understand). $100 / year for all the cars, and the bike (and the camper) ... sounds good if that's the case.
