Default New Bike's Tires

Your Opinions Please!

I keep hearing from varies sources in my area that the tires that come with the bike as brand new vehicle are not good enough and that they will brake or get puntured very easily and soon. I have been warned to get the money ready to purchase a new set of tires "Probably before my first bike check." That is meaning the 600 miles check.
Please is there any truth to this? I have the 2006 C90T. According to manual tires are Bridgestone. As far as I know they are a reputable tire brand Please any suggestion or idea to share?
Thank you advance for any ideas/suggestions.

Just like with cars, bikes don't come with the best tires you can buy, but they're not the worst either. Unless you are an above average rider, you'll never be able to tell the difference between the best, and the worst. Like Night Wolf says, they will last you about 10,000 miles. just keep proper air pressure in them, and ride them. Keep in mind, the more expensive tires don't usualy last as long as the cheaper ones. They put a softer compound rubber that has more grip, but wears out faster on the high-end tires.

As said, the stock tires are not the best on the market, but they are also not that bad. Suzuki has a contract with Bridgestone - Suzuki bikes are always delivered with Bridgestone tires. After my 'Stones wore out, I replaced them with Continental RoadAttacks, which IMHO perform much better on my bike (I am much more comfortable and have much more confidence in the Contis).

My Bridgestones only lasted 5,000 miles (8000 KM) - a C90 will probably not go much further on a set of tires. The "problem" with long-boar, high torque engines is that they put a lot of stress on the rear tire, increasing wear and tear.

Look forward to replacing tires - I hope to replace my tires once per year, which means I'm averaging about 1,000 KM per month during the riding season (max. 8 months per year). A summer where I need 2 sets of tires would be great!

It's weird, here in Canada, our M50's come with IRC's grand touring.??

There you go bragging about getting great miles from tires! Hi Jim!

My Dunlops and Stones over years have only gone 3,000 to 3,500 miles. But sportbikes are hard on tires. When I switched to Michelins, I'm getting about 5,200 miles and much better handling performance. Just replaced the front tire Sunday with 8,300 miles on it. It was way overdue but I had no time. Looked like a slick with the slightest tread on the edges. I know stupid move, but I had no option.

I don't think any bike manufacturer would sell abike with real cheap tires on it. To high a liability. As for buying your next set of tires, you need to consider your riding style, road and weather conditions. Ask this information of riders with similiar bikes, and I'm sure you'll get matched up with the right set of tires for your riding needs.

Hmm... come to think about it, the tires on my CBR are Bridgestone Battleaxes.

Default Great Thanks to All

Thank you guys and gals. Hey I guess even 5K miles per set would be somewhat OK. At least should take me thru the Summer here in Philadelphia. I am planning the Virginia to Up State New York travels for the season. Let's see if my skinny rear can really sustain the abuse.
A shot of neuroblockade in the rear should take care of all feelings related to the seat.

Stay Safe Everyone!!!

A method of blocking pain. Riding cruisers for long distances can be a pain in the @$$.

Some drugs that paralyse your muscle. You are still awake.

Pun intended about the use of neuroblock. If you have ever seen one of those movies involving South American Amazonian or else where natives who use plants or otherwise to paralyze their hunt.

Tell the truth EZ, which is the biggest pain in the a** over a long distance ride a cruiser or a sportbike.

This is your charge, Grasshopper.
8 hours on your trusty M50, 8 hours on your CBR.
Then and only then can you wax on, wax off.

8 hours on a cruiser = pain in the butt
8 hours on a crotch rocket = pain in your balls, knees, elbows, neck, ...

Inspiron is right. See blackie, the trusty M50 IS better for long distance riding because it hurts less.

In the US, the C50s and M50s ship with IRCs. My GZ 250 came with Metzelers.

No, there is no truth to that. Barring road debris and with proper inflation, your stock tires should be fine for many thousands of miles. I did have to replace my C50's rear tire at 5000 miles because I hit a hunk of protruding metal at a rural RR crossing. The tread had lots of life left - I replaced it with the same IRC tire and am quite happy with the set.

Tim it depends what you call young.
I checked you are hiding your age.

When I climbed on my son's 6r, I was in pain before I turned the key.
