Default not to park on a decline

Today I pay for new front fairing, clutch lever and stator cover due to parking on a decline and beginning to walk away only to see in the corner of my eye the bike fall down. No major damage, but I dont like dents and scratches and the like, so after a few weeks of trying to deal with my stupidity and accepting the scratched bike, I am having the items replaced.

Now when I park I can assure you I am extra attentive to the slope of the area no matter how slight.

Yep I also learned this.

Now my friends bike (Honda Nighthawk 750) doesn't have as many problems. His kick stand locks and when he's on an incline/decline his bike doesn't have a problems, however my Suzuki Katana 600 will actually roll forward and the kickstand will flip up.

I guess my response is to let those who read this who say "my bike doesn't have that problem" remember this story when you go get a new bike.

man, the same thing happed to me last week. I was on my way to a party with my wife and parked my bike on a slight incline. As soon as I turned around the bike fell. My left blinker and clutch level was broke. I had to leave the bike and get it towed the next day to get repairs done. Not to mention the dents and scratches it left. DAMN!!!

Yup....I learned... My Katana will roll forward off the kick when parked on any kind of a decline... I managed to save it though... Was starting to get off in my driveway. Very slight decline. It started to roll forward, falling to the left as the kick folded back. I slide my foot under and managed to keep it under the faring.... Was a %%%%% to gt out from under and keep the bike off the pavement. Now I always try to park on an incline.

oh btw,
when your bike is idling in nuetral, don't try to clean off the shift lever. It tends to pop into gear for some reason and lurch foward.

mine didn't quite go all the way tho. HA

Most modern bike have a safety built into the kickstand. If the bike's running and the kickstand is down, trying to put it in gear will only kill the engine. Designed to eliminate that accidental lurch from occuring.

04 GSX-r600 will do it, kinda nice though for parking on declines. leave it in 1st and pull the kick stand down, kills the engine, and left in 1st so just let out the clutch feel it catch and set it over. granted i wouldn't do that on a steep decline. just a gradual one.

My 1984 GPz 550 does that too. In gear, drop the kickstand, engine is killed.
