Default RAM Mount/Zumo 550 for SV650S

Hi, all,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience or success stories regarding mounting a Zumo 550 GPS on an SV650S (specifically, a 2006 SV) using a RAM mount. The Zumo includes a handlebar mount, but I can't find any examples of people mounting them on clip-ons.

I'm a new rider (and the bike is also new), so I'm in no hurry to get this done. (The fewer the distractions, the better, I figure.)

If I come across a solution elsewhere, I'll post it here.

Thanks!

Don

You might look into mounting the Ram on a threaded socket or something besides the clip-on. They have a bunch of options, and I wouldn't think there's much room there.

I guess it helps if you read the installation guide while looking at the bike.

I installed the RAM handlebar base by replacing the bolts on the brake clamp bracket with the bolts included in the kit. Works like a charm.

Wish I could try it out today, but this SERIOUSLY crappy weather makes me feel like I'm under house arrest.

(I'll post a picture of the finished product when I can swim over to the garage.)

Sorry -- I can't figure out how to edit posts any more....

So, I installed the RAM handlebar base by replacing the bolts on the brake clamp bracket with the bolts included in the kit.

The Zumo mount attaches to the handlebar base:

And the Zumo locks into the mount (and is easily removable):

Now all I have to do is get the power cable connected to the mount, which I may ask the guys at the dealer service department to do.

Very Nice. My Garmin for my cage can run for hours (not 4 hours...but some hours..never checked exactly how long) on the internal battery. I do that when I'm driving the bus for my church. The old MCI doesn't have a power port, so I run off batt, then recharge in someone's car at night.

very nice setup! I was looking at doing something like this with my Sirius radio but I am going to go with a completely waterproof set-up. Do you carry a ziplock bag with you in case it rains?? lol

The Zumo is supposedly waterproof -- but I'm not! I'm not feeling confident about riding in the rain yet.

I just saw a Sirius mount, by the way, at MountGuys.com - Specializing in GPS, Satellite Radio, Marine Electronics and Accessories!, if you're interested (ziplock bag probably not included).
