Arrow 2001 SV650S for wife... advice please.

I'm trying to get my wife into an SV650. Found a good deal on one in our area.

a 2001 w/ 28k miles. Two Brother's s/o. Never dropped (so they say... will verify tonight), and only a couple nicks on the paint.

I will need to lower it, but will leave that to the professionals (Traxxion in Woodstock, GA).

I don't know if the mileage is a concern. Think these things will do 75-100k (hope). Need new sprocks/chain and probably brakes. No prob... can do these.

My questions are:

1. Should I be concerned w/ mileage? To start off, she will continue to ride the M50 during the week (commuting) and use the SV for the weekends (lots of mountain roads in NE Georgia) and potentially a track day or two.

2. Sprocks/Chain - w/ my FZ1.. the best replacements are factory... they seem to get more miles. Is this the same for the SV?

I'm going to look at it tonight, any tips would be helpful.

Thanks,

EP

For a 2001, 28k seems reasonable. Was it ridden hard? Stunted?

I'm not a mod expert, but I figure you can't go wrong with OEM replacements.

The SV is a great bike!

Edit: Moving to SV forum.

The SV is a great bike and has a real solid motor. But like all bikes it depends on how well it was treated. Check for the normal signs of abuse and use good judgement. I have a 2000 with 20k and it still runs great! Ive never had any major issues with it either

The SV V-twin is damn near bullet proof as long as you change the plugs and oil on a regular basis. Carb Sync and Valve adjustments are the only things that you should really be concerned about with that mileage on the motor. If you get it for her get all the fluids changed.: forks, oil, brake fluid and coolant. If the chain is okay that will be fine for a while and then just have the pads checked for wear, air filter and do the plugs since your under the tank already.

I'd try and get confirmation that engine maintenance was done. That's not a lot of miles unless it's been neglected, in which case it could be almost shot. Look for records of valve adjustments, oil changes and air filter replacement.

Like the others said.
