Default Purchasing SV650...would like feedback

Word up to all those streetbike daredevils.

Anyway, I'm purchasing an SV650 very soon. I just want some feedback on the bike.

I have not ridden a bike, I just got my temps and I will be learning to ride as soon as this weather breaks. I've heard the SV is a good starter bike, I know it has a lot of power as I've heard alot of people use it for racing. Hence I cannot find a used one, but they are pretty cheap (under $6K). So I'm just going to buy a new one. I hope I'm making a good choice (Feedback please).

Also, I'm 26. I live in Lakewood, Ohio which is a suburb of Cleveland. I got a price quote on Progressive of about $50 a month, which I don't think is too bad. My roommate has a 2005 Boulevard and he is paying about $30 a month. Anybody know if I should even bother trying All State or Progressive? Or anybody think I should get more insurance than just liability?

Lastly, the MSRP is $5949. I want to talk the salesman down. How low do you think I can get him? I'm hoping to get him down to about $5500, but I think I might need a prayer for that. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks all. Riding season is almost here.

starter bike....well I guess i wont go all through that again. I like the bike alot I havent been on alot of bikes but i have been riding for 3 years. its got great low end power from the twins, so your not constantly shifting gears which is a bonus unless you like to do that. I pay 33.00 a month for full coverage for mine. http://www.bike-line.com/ the dealer will probably more apt to give you the gear then to go lower in price. gear is expensive so that may be a workable way to get it thrown in as they say. let us know what comes of it

cant really help you with the 650 as i own a 1000s. all i can tell you is that the quality of the bike is awesome. no problems at all so far. you ride it easy, you ride it hard; it doesnt matter. rock solid performance. probably the best sportbike you never heard of..................

The SV is not the best starter bike but it's certainly a better choice than MANY others.

Buy a used bike something with 500cc to learn. With the cash you save buy the best gear you can afford. Take the MSF course. Practice your riding skills and then upgrade.

Personnally, I had a Kawi GPz550 for a year and then moved up the SV650S which I totally love!
